Hello, this is my first post, and sorry if any of my questions have been answered before. Having never before anticipated owning a caravan of any kind, vintage or new, we now rather unexpectedly find ourselves custodians of a Carapark 10/9 'project'.
The van is currently in the Riverina and we need to be able to tow it to our home in Sydney for restoration, so the first jobs will be to make the van roadworthy and sealed for the trip. We will be replacing all the cladding rivets, fixing the roof vent hinges and catch, and closing off the broken/missing windows with plywood. The old floor has been removed and the chassis bead blasted and cold gal painted. We have new ply floor to fit before moving the van.
My immediate questions, (there will be many more) are:
The aluminium sheets do not appear to have any form of sealant in the sheet overlaps. Is there supposed to be any? If not, won't the van leak?
The axle, springs, and even the wheel bearings are in surprisingly good condition, the brakes require some work which does not faze me, but the wheels (and obviously the tyres) are beyond help. What wheels am I looking for? They are 15" diameter, 5 bolt pattern approximately 97mm stud centres, so approx 165mm PCD. (only measured with ruler). I would really appreciate advice on this as I must move the van over the coming weeks. The current rims also have 185/65 tyres which are obviously too wide and low profile as they are quite difficult to remove, even with the jack under the chassis. Please advise a suitable tyre.
Thank you in anticipation,
