My carapark 10 9 is slowing being dismantled ready for a ground up reno. I am considering leaving the roof hatch off - ie just having a plain, flat roof with no vent. My motivation is that (1) the hatch is pretty beaten up, and (2) no hatch = less chance of leaks.
Again, I'd appreciate people's thoughts/opinions and experience. Thank you.

That's pretty poor motivation OP!!! I think you'd regret the decision to omit the hatch. They are great for ventilation at night and take the heat out during the day when you're away. They are dead easy to rebuild and reframe. I've done that on two previous vans. I can't remember what the hatches on a 10/9 are made of, but if they are metal and you have limited skills in that area, build a wooden frame and add a marine ply lid. I would recommend that you also look closely at the hatch framing in the roof, because they are often rotten too. Having said that, I feel a bit of a fraud, as I am not adding a hatch on Cino Vardo, so it's very much a case of don't do as I do, but as I say!!!
