Hi! Just bought this van for my three kids and I to live in while we relocate interstate for work, in between selling and buying a new home. It will then become a guest room once we have a new property. It will need work, door trims, ceiling, flooring, some fittings, that cover that protects the front windows, new window locks... first a new coupling is going on the draw bar. Can anyone provide info on the model, where to source parts, etc? Common problems, leaks, etc? Any examples of this model that people have done up already? Thanks! Fiona

Hi Rick and Fiona, As I said on another site you are on your van is about a 1968 or 69 model, the current Coronet company is not the same that built your van. The windows were made in house by Coronet,so you will have to adapt other fittings available from caravan accessory places. I can see the ceiling has been overlaid with pieces of ply which are probably covering a lot of rot,so it would be worth taking the roof off and starting again, from memory these vans were framed with 2x1 pine. Good luck with your Reno, Cheers hughdeani

Thanks Hugh, great info there! Yes, I think you are right about frame. You can see rot in the frame underneath the side walls too. Hubby is replacing the brakes coulling and axle at work these next few days. Got to replace front window glass too, and build a cover to protect it while travelling. Missing a back rest cushion on the diner. Half in a mind to rip out kitchen and dinner and put a slide out kitchen and fridge like a camper trailer, and a permanent double bed where the kitchen and diner are. Would work better for living in methinks.
With framing, have people found it easier to rip out internals or to do it from the outside?

It gets worse. Yes rot everywhere. Ive decided to rip out the kitchen altogether and put a double bed there down the track, with a slide out kitchen and fridge slide into the annexe hidden underneath the bed. The power in plug is a 3 phase socket, so all the lights and fridge (if it even worked) are useless. I'll just have to run an extension cord and power board through one of the windows or the annex.. Who installs 3 phase power on a caravan? New coupling is on, as are rated tow chains. Still now trailer plug wiring, other half forgot that. Annex arrived. 3 parts missing, the mounts that you attach the poles to the van. Centre curved roof pole is kinked. And one of the buckles on the seat belt style guy ropes broken out the box. Ive requested the seller to express post them. We leave in 9 days to move interstate. Im just going to set up my camp kitchen in the annex with my waeco. Sleep in the annex in my swag with the baby. My girls can have the bunks inside, but i have to buy bed rails for them as they will both roll off otherwise. The rails under the van supporting it on the a-frame are rusted away badly. Needs new tyres. Needs new axle too probably. Definitely needs a better jockey wheel. Stabiliser bars look too dodgy to trust, so I'll have to buy jack stands or besser blocks. I just feel so ripped off. I should have just bought a big tent. Im worried the damp and rot amd mould is going to make us all sick. This seller really put the pressure on me, saying he's been messed around so much and i have to pay deposit before inspection so i was already committed to buying and when we went for inspection the other half just hooked it up and didnt even inspect, i was kind of relying on his knowledge.

Hi Fiona, So sorry to see that you have been jipped,I’m pretty sure this isn’t the first time I have seen vans “done up” for sale from this person, and if it’s any consolation you are not the only one this has happened to on here😞 Good luck for the future, hughdeany
as for the 3 phase power,it looks like a standard 15 amp power inlet to me,that has a large earth pin,is this what you are calling 3 phase? If so,you will need an adaptor from van 15 amp to house 10 amp to be safe.

Hi rick&fiona
So sorry to hear that you've been soooo dudded. Perhaps a good example for so many newbies going into vintage caravanning, that at times you can buy in haste and repent in leisure - at great expense to the hip pocket! Sadly there are people in the VV industry who see it as a opportunity for making a quick buck for very little outlay. There is one such business not far from me, charging exorbitant prices for what you get in the vans they sell. I have sadly seen on another vintage caravan site, the regular recommendation to use builders' bog for repairs, which eventually some other sod will buy and get ripped off all over again.
Perhaps, in the short term, you may well be better off buying a decent tent and camping rather than living in what could turn out to be a sieve and perhaps even unsafe, especially now that summer is coming on. Then, when you have re-settled, you can work on the van at a more leisurely pace, or even sell as a project for someone else, if you other half is not able to do it.

So sorry you have been sold a lemon. I would not risk towing it anywhere by the looks of the frame. The power inlet is a 15 amp. Houses are 10amp & most caravan parks & caravans are 15amp. Still, I wouldn't touch it judging by the rest of the dodgy works. Get an electrician to check it.

I am so angry that people can get away with the sort of c#@p that you have suffered.
Looking at your latest sets of pictures has really upset me, you must be feeling dreadful.
I dont know what you paid but personally I think if you can afford it perhaps the best course of action for you now is to sell it off for whatever you can get for it or even break it up for spares, and go out and buy yourself a better one to keep.
Now at least you have some first hand knowledge of what to look for and can make a much better informed decision on what is right for you.
Where are you situated or moving to?
All the best with it whichever way you go..
