I am after some ideas for hardware I could use to pin the two parts of my barn door together. I was going to use a barrel bolt but discovered that it won't work. I have a groove at the bottom of the upper door, so I can't get the two parts of the barrel bolt close enough together. The door didn't originally have anything holding the two parts together. It has a cabin hook on the upper door to hold it open but not on the lower door. On a windy day the lower door swings closed.

Hi Mel Can you build and attach an upper and lower wooden backplate to which you can then fit the barrel bolt? Or perhaps a bolt with a longer shaft? Or a garden gate type of barrel bolt?

Yes, I did consider the back plate and longer bolt. I would prefer not to have to resort to the back plate and haven't found a barrel bolt that is long enough.
