Hi Iwish327, Good to have you join the forum, and great to hear about your Don. I am one of the people that is always interested to hear about the discovery of another Don caravan, which is why Shesgotthelook mentioned my name. I'll need to check my records later this evening, but serial number 586 most likely indicates a build date of 1950, or possibly early 1951. It would be great to see some photos of your van. There are instructions on how to post photos on the forum in the 'Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints' section. It takes a little bit to work it out, but it's not that hard. However, if it all looks a bit complicated, you're welcome to email some photos to me and I'll post them for you. You can email them to caravanhistory@gmail.com There are a few Don tragics (kind of SGTL to call us gurus! ) on the forum that will be interested to hear about your van and to see some photos. Hi again Iwish327,
I've checked my records, and based on that, I've estimated that your van was built at the very end of 1950, or more likely the very beginning of 1951. That's based on the assumption that Don maintained a steady rate of production between 1950 and 1956. That's probably a bit of a jump in one way, but on the other hand Don Robinson - who's company built the Dons - was pretty set in his ways, so it's probably a reasonable assumption and I reckon that date is going to be pretty accurate.
