Hi I have just come across a 1950's....early 60's bond wood van tagged:- A. Hale and Sons 251 Montague Road West End South Brisbane.
Does anybody have any info on this manufacturer?

Hi Oldcarharry,
I know that you posted quite a long time ago, but it's fascinating to read about the bondwood van, apparently built by A Hale & Sons in West End, Brisbane. I must have missed the post at the time. Did you take any photos of the van when you saw it, by any chance? It would be great to see them.
I've done a bit of a search. The firm of A Hale & Sons were furniture manufacturers in Brisbane, and seem to have been active from the late 30's and certainly into the 40's, and possibly beyond. Quite a few of the items which turn up on Trove about them concern various family members being fined for tax evasion! Sounds like they might have been creative types? There is no reference in the press advertisements listed by Trove about them building caravans, but there were a few furniture manufacturers in the 40's and 50's who tried their hand at caravan building, so it sounds like the Hale family was amongst them.
