Hello all, Mike & Lyn are proud to announce the arrival of their new Baby, Furness that is. A 10 footer. We picked it up from Karoonda S.A. yesterday and brought it back to Ballarat. After spending a few hours this morning scrubbing it out, it looks a lot better. A few issues, hole through roof, needs new Kanite and canvas. Wheels, bearing and tyres need attention and a bit of woodwork needs replacing, but it is in fairly good condition. Been sitting in a shed for most of the last 40 years. Number welded on the draw bar is 1143 and it still has the original coupling. postimg.org/gallery/utkw53wq/Hope to get it ready for Anglesea in November, but that depends on what is behind the masonite (or what isn't and should be) Mike & Lyn.

Hi Mike & Lyn, That's great news! I think that's the only 10 ft Furness we've heard about on the forum, so it's wonderful to hear that you're going to restore it. Also good to see the serial number. We have a few Furness serial numbers recorded on the Furness thread in the Down History Lane section. One of the vans shown there is number 441, which it was said was built in 1947 (although we have no info on how that date was established or how accurate it is), and Brenten's Furness is number 3075. So your van is somewhere in between those two! Not very helpful, but I'm speculating that yours is a 50's van, maybe early 50's? Did you receive any info with the van that may indicate when it was built? Don Ricardo PS I've added the info about the serial number to the post about your van on the Furness thread here.

Hi Don, All we know of it's past history is that it was a pale blue and the chap I bought it from painted it green. Not sure about the windows, they look as though they have been professionally fitted. Once we start sanding the paint we are hoping to see some signs of previous sliding windows. In fact the only things that make us think it is a Furness is the sliding door (wooden one replaced because it was rotten) and the tow coupling. There are no names found on it so far. Mike.

Well, a lot of progress, all the damaged timber has been replaced, inside rear plywood replaced, foilboard insulation installed and this weekend the Masonite will be fitted to the exterior sides. Still thinking about replacing the front and rear because there is a bit of damage on the edges. So far we have found absolutely no signs of it ever having sliding windows and the paint stripe pattern under the green is different from known Furnesses. We have found the previous body and stripe colours which correspond with the interior so we are going for them. Tried to find out the date of first registration of the SA7757 plate, but the SA Government will not tell me anything because I am not living in SA and the van is not registered to me. Any ideas please Cheers, Mike & Lyn. You will have to copy & paste this link to photos.
