Thanks, 2 other styles of windows to deal with, as well. One of the other ones is siliconed closed, but glass has frames so looks a bit easier. I think it will be some time before i put them back in. Made the decision to do a proper job, rather than continue the history of patching. Means this will take a long time.

Found these letters under cladding. Struggling with screws so cant reveal all today. I think it has "hire" written under it. Can cladding be reused by others? How gentle should i be? Michelle

Port holes are not original, if that helps with identification. The original bondwood has been cut out and a new piece put on for port holes. Only single skin. No bond left at front, haven't got to back yet.

This van is like a gift that keeps giving. Got all the aluminium off the front. Underneath stamped on the wood is__ C.A.L., MELBOURNE. I think there are letters missing from front. It is tacked on, rather than screwed on, like the sides, so i think dates when the cladding was put on. Will take photo, when i work out new way. I had just mastered photobucket!

Perhaps C.A.L. was something like LAMCAL is today. A supplier of plywood. Vagabond was a caravan brand name once. Good luck with the pictures.

Can confirm the flat front is not original. Have got all the front metal off both sides and front now. The word vagabond on the side runs out of room, and the letters "nd", were removed in the remodeling. Since i have to rebuild one front corner anyway, going to rebuild with a round front to match back and the curves on the inside. Ive given up on photos for awhile.

Hi Shellygt, More interesting revelations about your van. It certainly gets more and more intriguing, the more you tell us. Please don't give up on the photos though - as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And in the case of this forum, provides lots of clues to enable us to figure out the origins of the vans we see. I''m particularly interested to see the 'Vagabond' signage you mentioned. Although Photobucket has created problems for some of our members, your photos are still displaying, so that's a big plus. But you might like to try posting photos via Flickr or Postimages. There are instructions on how to use Flickr on the Classic Caravans forum here, courtesy of forum member Mustang. I know you've tried using Imgur - that works as well. BUT a careful reading of their Terms of Service appears to say that you are not permitted to use their website for third party hosting of photos (which is what we've been using Photobucket for). So I'd avoid Imgur for the moment. Anyway, back to your van...all very intriguing, as I said. I'm looking forward to reading the next bits of info you tell us about it. Don Ricardo

Here we are. Looking into flikr account. I don't think is from when caravan was built. Currently there is a large blue stripe on side, which was replicated onto aluminum. If i scratch gently it reveals another colour scheme underneath which is a smaller blue stripe outlined in red. I hope i can put the caravan back together, my quest to find it's identify means bits are getting pulled off randomly. Michelle

It should look great with a more rounded nose on it.

This is officially a frustrating hobby. I got the cladding off the top front anticipating some sinage. Nothing. But the roundness at the top is original, but goes flat at the under edge. And i cracked the porthole glass. Think i will leave cladding on roof. Whats underneath does not look water proof.

Yes. It is plain. They are not apart of the original van, but they are the reason i bought the van. So they are staying. Been to cold in sth west vic. to work on van, so no recent progress. Only the planning to rebuild front. Im also considering commissioning some etching for the broken porthole glass. I love some that ive seen on some posts. If im successful, will post them. Don't hold your breath waiting, im working at a snails pace.

That is beaut Mustang, My bowling club has frosted glass silhouettes, showing the bowlers in action. You can see through some of the frosted stuff as its meant to be that way. I like the semi frosted bits best. They provide the picture without blocking the view. I've had it in mind for when I do van up. Not bowlers but more van related stuff.

Wow. Can you send me the details of where you got made? Then i can design and get made, while im fixing the front. It might inspire me to work faster. On a side note, i do alot of country driving, and i find myself looking for vans, and when i do guessing what they are. I assume this a common affliction. Ive 2 caravan parks in mind, to go in and have a better snoop.

A glimmer of hope that somewhere under the cladding and six coats of paint, there is a well built caravan worth saving. The cupboard and wardrobe doors are a beautiful red polished wood. The base colour is just plain cream color. When I got to the purple, i quickly kept scratching, in horror.

Hi Mustang, keep the opt out of VigLink in your bookmarks on your computer. You can also do it on your phone. Just type in opt out of VigLink in google search. I'll give you the link here, hopefully it doesn't take you to the mass advertising ! If it does, just type it in your own search bar. Cheers, SGTL www.viglink.com/opt-out/
