Hi All, unfortunately we won't be able to go to Wangaratta for the 2018 nationals as it is nsw school hols which is our busy time so can't be that far away from home ..... so I thought I would get in my suggestion for the 2020 nationals early! The park I am thinking of is Byron Holiday Park, 3km south of Byron township, it is a large park with a large section of about 150 sites with a mix of powered/unpowered/ensuite sites that can easily be separated from the rest of the park for large groups and is dog friendly. I have a good working relationship with Gerald the manager and think he would be very supportive of a gathering there. It may also be a good place for smaller meetups. My other suggestions would be Evans Head, which is already a regular meet up spot for some members, or The Terrace reserve in Brunswick Heads, but don't think that would be big enough for a large meet who's in for Byron in 2020?!!!

Rodnet - yes small dogs welcome
kimbo - yes byron can be a traffic disaster at times, but as long as its out of school holidays it is manageable, and Byron Holiday park is half way between Byron and Suffolk so also accessible via Bangalow if town is busy.
It is a totally selfish suggestion on my part trying to push a spot so close to home (so I can still work if i need to) but thought it worth a try ;D It ticks all the boxes are far as being in a nice spot, being large enough, dogs allowed and we would get a group discount so just putting it out there.

ALL parks on the Sunshine Coast/Noosa area have this small dog mentality (if they take dogs at all) I would check if a larger dog is welcome or not at your proposed park. Sounds good otherwise. Brent

Hi Retropod & all
Good suggestion re Byron Holiday Park for 2020 Nats. Close enough to Qld to count there! It's really the only park in Byron that is Dog friendly apart from Belongil Fields which is totally unsuitable. This park used to be a dump but management have really cleaned it up nicely. Good walk from the Park through the heathland to the beach south of BB Lighthouse. Park is opposite BB golf course. Over the years I've often suggested this Park as a weekend meetup but never got any takers. We've stayed there & enjoyed it. Of course, if you were bored in Byron, there would have to be something wrong with you there's so much to see & do!

Have I missed something, or is that saying firefighter is no longer planning future Nationals? Kinda sounds like "dog-gate" might have caused some changes in the chain of command. I hope not. never liked change much...

Isn't it about time the Queensland mob invited us up their way for a Nationals ?? Gladly if you can find a spot especially to suit doggies. Last Sat I rode past Bli Bli, Coolum, Cotton tree (2), Dicky Beach, all packed to the rafters, at this warmish time of the year. I have never seen Coolum like this!!!! & its not like they are missing you with prices. This is the new kid on the block link

I cannot speak for his (firefighter's) availability for the next one but I can tell you it took f/f a lot of time and effort to find a venue and to get this one to happen.. thanks for mentioning that bob. i was fortunate enough to be part of the organising committee for the nationals at both cowra and broken hill, and i don't mind saying that we spent many, many hours, some late at night, putting those events together and making many long phone calls arranging site visits to local places of interest, dinner nights, auctions, etc, etc. these coming nationals are at wangaratta where, unfortunately, pets are not permitted. i expect the decision to go to wangaratta must have taken into account a number of things, like park size, region, local items of interest, sightseeing and of course, availability. the fact that pets are not welcome is a bit of a downer, but i'm sure that most (if not all) our pet owners have been on a holiday at some time and had the need to "billet" their animals with friends or make other arrangements to look after them. i don't criticize any pet owners for their concerns or comments but i am concerned that the first reaction is to "have a go" at the organisers, through firefighter, before they look for ways to accommodate their pets and then be able to attend the nationals. as an aside, i think that it's probably a bit early to start having lengthy discussions about where the 2020 nationals might be held - lets concentrate on the coming event first and make it as successful as those that we have had in the past. geoff 'n jude

Hey everyone, sorry if I have stepped on any toes, wasn't intending to, I can imagine it is a huge job to organise and having been to my first one at South West Rocks I will say it is very well done, I just really loved the 2016 Nationals and as I can't get to wangaratta so I am just being a bit cheeky trying to get every one to come to me
