Hi all, we've sold this caravan to be used as guest room, not on road. For the day pass with Main Roads the VIN/chassis is required. We've looked everywhere in and out and under this caravan but to no avail. It is a Tru Line from WA - don't know what year or model. Any ideas where to go from here? I haven't had any luck even finding out about Tru Line WA

G'day danuta36, We on this forum don't know much about Tru Line caravans either, what we do have you can see if you CLICK HERE we would be highly delighted if you could post a few photos of the Tru Line van you have, inside and outside please or does it look like THIS ONE on a face book site ? If the van has not been registered for some time and doesn't have a rego label with a vin # on it can't you just tell the DMR it's a 1960s caravan and they didn't have vin # . There was a rumour I once heard that somebody borrowed a set of metal stamps and a number miraculously appeared on an old caravan, but that was in NSW Cobber.

In Victoria, you can request a vin no. when applying for a permit. One van I purchased, they had stamped a vin no. onto a small metal plate but never attached it. We welded it on prior to registration.

Hi Danuta36,
Great to read about your Tru Line. As noted by yourself and Cobber, information about Tru Line caravans is pretty scarce. So before you hand the van on to the next owner, we would LOVE you to post some photos of it on the forum, just to expand our knowledge that little bit further. If we see some photos, we may also be able to at least give you a ball park build date based on the style and design, etc.
You can post photos via Photobucket which is an online photo storage website; there are instructions in the 'Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints' section of the forum. But if that seems a bit too much trouble if you're not intending to be a long-term member of the forum, you can email the photos to me, and I will gladly post them for you. If you click on my forum name in blue in the panel on the left hand side of this post, it will open up a new window which will provide my email address.
Tru Line is a bit of a puzzle which we would love to begin to unravel with your help.
Don Ricardo

Hi Daveraw, Welcome to the forum. I see you referred to Oldbitsmadenew in your post, so I'm guessing that you are now the owner of his Style-Line van? Regarding the serial number for your van, and assuming I am correct about the van, there is what appeared to be a possible serial number shown in the photos of your van that were posted here. However, the little plate with the word and numbers on it appears to have been partially broken off, so maybe you are missing some vital info? If that is the case, you should be able to ask the registration authority in your state to provide you with a new VIN number that you can get stamped on the A-frame. If you have the right equipment, you can do that yourself. It's a fairly simple process to obtain a VIN as I understand it, but once you've got it and it's stamped on the A-frame, you can proceed with registration. Alternatively, if you can figure out the serial number from the existing plate on the A-frame, that's really all you need. The serial number may be as simple as a two or three digit number. From the photo of the plate, the number looks like '12' or maybe '15'. However, I am a little confused by the 'erson' above it. I am wondering if what that tell us is that the chassis for your van was manufactured by Henderson's Federal Spring Works, thus '(Hend)erson'? In the post for your van I referred you to, Oldbitsmadenew stated that he had been told that the chassis for Style-Line vans were manufactured 'around the corner' in Burwood, but Henderson's were located in Sylvania, which is not exactly just around the corner from Burwood. Perhaps some Style-Line vans were built on Henderson chassis, while others were built on chassis manufactured more locally? I don't really know, but it's interesting to speculate. Anyway, you may be able to use the number of the plate on the A-frame for registration, but if not, you should be able to get a new VIN fairly easily. We'd love to hear more about how you acquired the van and what what you're intending to do with it. Don Ricardo
