No where near as bad as we expected mustang , it's just trying to find the time for it is the hard part at the moment.
Yep the old plates are staying. That's One of the good things about SA, as long as it has a number plate it is basically walk in rego with barely any questions asked and you keep the original plates.

Well with Christmas now over and done with and both of us off work for a couple of weeks work has FINALLY begun on the Franklin (only 7 months after we brought it home)
Today was a bit of a poke around to see where to start. we pulled out some of the windows and pulled off the odd piece of cladding in front of the door and as expected the van has had a bit of a love tap to the front corner but not as bad as I was expecting.
Next we moved along to the door way, and found a bit of rot in the wood along the bottom (once again to be expected) but then after poking a bit more we discovered behind that the piece of metal running along the bottom of the door that's attached to the step is almost non existent. I guess we have found our starting point...
I also discovered that the chassis number is actually 2049-9 so is 20 vans earlier than we thought.

Well with Christmas now over and done with and both of us off work for a couple of weeks the Franklin has been moved undercover and work has FINALLY begun. (only 7 months after we brought it home) Today was a bit of a poke around to see where to start. we pulled out some of the windows and pulled off the odd piece of cladding in front of the door and as expected the van has had a bit of a love tap to the front corner but not as bad as I was expecting. I guess we have found our starting point... I also discovered 2049-9 hand written on the inside of the wardrobe so I think that I may have got the chassis number wrong originally and the van is 20 vans earlier than we thought and now looking at the number welded on the draw bar It could easily be a 4 instead of a 6...

Haha. Have a little faith... The Harris took 3 months this should be a walk in the park compared. But in all seriousness we just want to make a good start on it. If we can get the structual stuff done in the next couple weeks we will be happy.

Here we are a couple of weeks later and we still have a way to go but we managed to get some things done on the franklin. Maybe not as much as we would have liked but any progress it good I guess. The husband replaced the section under the door and part of the floor inside the door. the ply at the front and rear of the van was also replaced. while he was replacing the rear ply sheet the decision was made to swap the 2 short narrow single beds for a Queen size with lift up access to underneath instead. And last but not least I started to Undercoat the inside of the van. Till next time.

So its been a year since the last update on the van and thats because progress has been very slow, but we have decided its time to get back in to it and get it finished! Our focus has been the inside to begin with. We have had all new cupboard doors cut We have replaced the ply in the front and rear. We have also Primed and painted over the wood veneer and I have started to recover the cushions. The fridge door will also get a makeover as some point We have changed the 2 single beds in the back to a east west queensize bed that folds up to acess the space underneath and started to tile the floor. Luckily we had enough tiles left over from the harris van to do the floor in here too. Mr JP has also made a new table and bench top which will be next to go in then it will be on to the outside. Hopefully It wont take anther 12 months to get to that...

It took us almost 2 years but we finally finished the Franklin! For those playing along, here is a reminder of what we started with 5F8A6951-77CC-4755-854E-6710A80EF85C by in.kognito, on Flickr 153A136B-5085-4372-8007-A1DA95CA52CE by in.kognito, on Flickr 7C95F9FB-EE8A-4809-9DA8-2B1A0A1ED808 by in.kognito, on Flickr Ah the memories, this was meant to be an easier resto that the Harris Van, haha who where we kidding! We repaired, painted and replaced so much on this one, it made the Harris look like a walk in the park but we finished it! We decided mid way through the resto that when we did finish it it would be destined for a new home, we don’t really have the room (or free weekends) for 2 caravans and we are so attached to the Harris this one had to go But not before we took it away for its maiden voyage. I think it’s safe to say no more caravan projects for us, well not anytime soon anyway 😉
