Does anyone know the procedure for using this fridge on gas? The information on the lowest level of the fridge suggests that onle changing the gas/electric setting is necessary. But doesn't the gas need to be lit? If so, where...?

Turn the control from Electric to Gas. Turn the gas control knob to the maximum. Down low on the right is a small brass button, hold this button in while you also hold a long match to the tube that runs to the rear of the fridge. Now this is the frightening bit, that tube has a row of holes from which the gas will light and follow along the tube and up the back to light the burner. You must continue to hold the little brass button until the burner is well lit which can be observed through a little mirror . This little mirror is placed at the rear under the burner but will likely need a clean as it will be very dirty. Remember that you are dealing with gas so be careful. It is guaranteed to put the wind up you when you first light that tube and see flames disappear up the back of the fridge. I would recommend removing the fridge and cleaning any rubbish before you start. Koala

Thanks rattles for your offer of a pdf of the Hallstrom guide. But what is "PM". I never did shorthand...
Thanks also to the next responder who gave a good account of the procedure for lighting the gas - I can't remember your name. The process sounds unnerving! How would i get the fridge out of it's very tight space to clean the mirror?

greeisgo - Sorry about the Short Hand, Click on the posters Name (blue text) on the top L/H corner of post then Select "Send Message" Type and send Message.
See the Message I sent you at top Tool Bar of all pages.
Depending on you Van access to clean the mirror is usually via the lower vent on the outside wall.

I have a manual but your explanation is heaps more explicit, any warning on trying it on one that hasn't ran on donkeys, that brass button doesn't move.

I have a manual but your explanation is heaps more explicit, any warning on trying it on one that hasn't ran on donkeys, that brass button doesn't move. The fridges seem to accumulate rubbish like paper, leaves, spder webs etc so i recommend removing the fridge to give it a clean before attempting to light it. While you are in there maybe use some compressed air to clean the burner. Koala
