I am starting on the repairs to our Adventurer (1968 I think) Does any body have any clues on lifting the body from the floor. seems to be sandwich board with aluminium skin' and having no frame as such has me very cautious. Iain

Hi, I am rubbing back a dodgy paint job of unknown age and found on front-left 2 sets of lettering. "Distributed by U(?) Hall Caravan Sales & Rentals 22 Hindmarsh Square Adelaide"
Below that, "Manufactured by Hart & Creer 388South Road Richmond S.A. 576025" I'll try to post photos. Cheers Iain

Further to the distributer name, can anyone shed light on the name as both the signwriter (who will copy it) and I can't realy read it properly. Can you remember such a dealer? Iain
P.S. Referring to photo in previous post

Hi 68Adventurer,
By my reading the sign says:
U-Haul Caravans Sales & ?? Pty Ltd 22 Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide
I can't quite read the word after the '&'. I expected it to be 'hire', but it clearly isn't - it's a longer word than that.
Hopefully somebody familiar with the Adelaide caravan industry back in the 60's will be able to confirm the above. You could try sending a message (PM or email) to forum members Lazza or Raym, who may be able to help you. Otherwise a library in Adelaide may be able to help you with a phone book from that period.

Hi 68Adventurer, With high hopes I checked through the various Winser caravan manuals I have for the late 60's, but I can't find a reference to U-Haul in Adelaide. But then they don't list Adventurer either. I suspect all that tells us is that neither U-Haul or Adventurer paid to have an entry in the manuals. In explanation, Keith Winser produced an annual publication - manual - with the details of caravan manufacturers and hirers, and caravan parks, etc, from 1947 through to the early 70's. He was based in Victoria and mainly covered the caravans produced in the eastern states. There are a few South Australian brands listed, but certainly not all. I was just hoping. I also checked the newspaper advertisements via Trove, the National Library's website search engine, but didn't come up with anything there either. I'm sure there's info out there about U-Haul somewhere, we've just got to find it. However, looking back at your pics I think Geoff 'n Jude have nailed it for you. Don Ricardo

Thanks! I've been searching the web, but amazing what a new pair of eyes can see. I've got pictures from the posts on the Adventurer, especially Phil Creer's Facebook pictures so the signwriter has some good logos etc to redo. I'll get photos of the inside at the weekend. Once again thanks Iain

Took it to National Park for the weekend. Dirt road did no damage so the "shakedown" trip was OK. The exterior may have to wait for summer.

Regarding "U-Haul Caravan Sales and Rentals" This dealership was in 'State Motors' Holden dealers in Adelaide, and an agent was 'City Motors'in Port Lincoln (my home) which may have been the selling agent in about 1968. Found this from the retired former dealer principal of City Motors. It's minor but now i (we) know. Iain
