I just wanted any tips or tricks on the restoration of our first van. Does anyone have any contacts on The Central Coast, NSW who may be able to help?
I would like to repaint and reupholster.

Hi NLV,
it depends on what you wish to achieve. If this is an all out total rebuild write yourself a list in order of what needs to be done. First what needs to be done to make it structurally sound, then what electrics, cupboards, internals, etc. Finish off with paint and interior colors, finishes, etc. Sounds simple but it will be a big list! Also make another list of things that are worn, broken, missing, need to be sourced etc so you can do that along the way.
If on the other hand it is only a quick go over to get it useable and then undertake a refurbishment over time refer to the above paragraph!
Start by making sure the chassis, wheels and tyres, axle, drawbar and electrics are all ok.
It looks like you have a pretty good base to work from - enjoy the journey.

Love your van! Thanks so very much for your reply. All structurally sound so no need for a rebuild. We have been very lucky with out purchase.
I had a pinstriper come and have a look at her and he's doing all the external painting in a fortnight. Can't wait. Now to investigate getting the cushions reupholstered.
Looking forward to styling it.

Giday NLV your van is quite a rare beast so if it were me I would stay true to factory original colours ,livery etc on the outside . When I did my Jennisons I must say I wasn't a fan of beige but it needed to stay as true as I could get it to factory colours as it too is rare.
The same goes for the inside . Can you salvage any of your cushion material/ vinyl and reuse it ? Sometimes it's a big ask and I realise at the end of the day you can paint it green with purple spots if you like but in my humble opinion original is king!

Ours seems to be very rare! We didn't realise just how rare until we tried to find information on it. It's going to stay the same colours as it currently is. Just freshen them up. We are of the belief they are the originals. Unless anyone else thinks differently?!? It's hard to say as we can't find another Viking. We took your advice and didn't find any other colours hidden under the current coat. We can make out the markings of the original wings which were a signature red as well as a stripe. We want to stay true to her. HAHA. I won't be green with purple spots. Each to their own but I'm of the same thinking as you.
I will try and post a pic of the cushions. They are red vinyl but underneath we think the fabric cushions may be the originals. However they are extremely uncomfortable. No idea how we'd sleep on them so we shall keep them in storage but have new ones made for everyday use.

Hi NLV So glad you are sticking to original. That's the weight of responsibility a rare van brings ah! If as you say that the original colour it's a great start ,and a great colour!
Good idea re cushions as looking at earlier posts I thought you may find another layer under the existing covers and original cushions will look a treat if you ever show your van!
Will the wings and stripe reappear?

It sure is! We are thinking we may try to get the cushions replicated. Yes, both songs and stripes will reappear. I've tried uploading photos but it isn'y working. Says the forum is exceeding the limit. Any ideas?
Shall do Andrew. So great having someone to chat to. Would love to find out more about the Supalites. Have you seen many?

Only seen a few on the forum and in mags. Just like shape. Reddo had a nice one and one sold on eBay not long ago

With your cushions you may be able to get the original covers fitted onto some new foam which would give u the best of both worlds
