G'day all I suppose most of you that have restored your vans would have already done the research on lamps and lenses. But I thought I might share a thread of info. replacement lenses are available in red and yellowfor your clearance , tail and stop lights.
Most motor parts shop stock Narva lights and the part no's are: Lense only Red = 85745, Yellow = 85747 Around $2.00ea
Hella no's are : 9.2006.01 red and 9.2006.02 yellow.
They might not be exact replicas but they will fit in the old metal bases.
I'll shut up now. Thanks for listening

Reddo! Don't appologise for what might seem obvious. ....ahem...can't tell me what the regulations are regarding lights on vans can you? Ie : .....do I have to have clearance lights.....? At this stage I still have to find an "aesthetically sypathetic" ::)set of blinkers and tail lights for my 1947 project that had one tail/stop/number plate light that had a manual swith built in!!! Hi Marc Dunno about your part of the world but here in NSW anything with an axle width wider than a 6x4 box trailer has to have two silver (one either side) reflectors facing forward at the extreme width of the trailer or van the rear has to have two red reflectors . I went through all this last year when i built a box trailer out of a cut down 14ft millard chassis ( 7ft axle width) with a 8ft x 6ft aluminium ute tray on top. I am almost certain that vans have to have a clearance light either side at the front (orange or yellow) . you are allowed one tailight /number plate/stop light light over the number plate and a blinker/turn indicator light mounted either side just above or below the red reflector. These reflectors can be any size . I have seen people use guide post reflectors (Yuk). or you might get away with those small rectangle shaped ones.
You can always remove the reflectors once it has passed rego if you want to maintain originality, but they might just save your van from having its bum shoved in by another vehicle at night if your tailight fails. i.e: you only have one bulb at the back of these old darlings to warn others of your presence on the road.
I suppose most trips are completed during the daylight but at least with a few added safety features at the back of the van you can rest easy that you have that department covered .
Belinda might be able to shed a bit more light ( no pun intended ) on this issue. She got thier van regoed last year and might have more info on regulations etc from first hand experience.

Apology I have just called at the motor parts place and the lenses I quoted on the post 23/1/05 are too small ( by about 4mm in diameter. I have asked him to get the next size up which will be Narva 86745 red & 86747 amber. if I stuff up this time i will be extremely red faced live and learn I say. In my travels to track down original lenses I have been told about an old bloke in his eighties who used to build ply vans here in Newcastle . His name was John Walsh and he built "Walsh Vans" ( what else) for many years. The bloke i got the info from said this old fella had a shed full of "New old stock" NOS parts etc for the older vans and had retired a few years ago. I will try and track him down during my holidays next week and see if he still has any goodies. There is about 80 walshs listed in the Newcastle phone book. The last know address was Mayfield so that narrows it down a bit. The poor old bloke is probably in a nursing home somewhere by now and won't know what i am talking about when and if i do track him down..........Until then its worth following up. Mayfield is only 20 minutes from here. Wish me luck. Detective Reddo

At the recent Bendigo swapmeet, I managed to pick up some NOS caravan tailight lenses with metal back for $5 each:

if you have an old lense that you need reproduced try Dale Mcshane at Carrara on the gold coast, He makes repro lenses for just about anything, Iam not sure of his number but he advertises in Cruzin Magazine so a quick call or email to Gasser Gav or Flamin Wayne at Drive Publications should get it for you. Also you can get new lamps similar to in your photo from Qld Desiel Spares who have three or four branches around SE Qld.
