A friend has found an enamel bowl, dimensions unknown. It looks the dimensions of a bowl from a Don wardrobe, used for washing.Any info would be appreciated, is it usually stamped? cheers, Heather

Hi Barkpaint,
The Don wash basins appear to be a slightly unusual size, as I've discovered from buying a couple that "look about the right size"...until I get them home... The basins that fit the brackets in the wash basin stand are 315 mm (1 foot and half an inch) in diameter by 103 mm (4 inches) high.
The original basin was just a generic type - nothing so high falluting as being branded or stamped. I am assuming that the originals would have been all green to match the decor, but for some reason most of the ones you see in Dons now are blue. That includes ours, but I know that my mother replaced our original basin with a blue one when the original became chipped. It happened a long time ago when I was quite small, but my vague memory is of a green original.
Hope that helps.

Thank you Don Ricardo. Remarkably the story has an ending. I had answered a friend on facebook, asking what was this bowl for....I asked you, did some look seeing on this site, went back and said it may be of interest to someone with an old caravan, it looked like the type from a 1950s van, to me. Result? Someone in NSW. has a bowl for their vintage van! and is very happy. so sometimes things happen for a reason. cheers, Heather.
