Hello there, I am is a bit of a pickle, Id like some advice and opinions. I have a great little van that I love to bits. However since purchasing this van my family has grown and 5 people just can't fit any more. I am on the hunt for a new van to take on a big road trip next year. I still want a smallish van (15 foot). Most vintage vans of this size are 4 berth. (this would be ok as my kids are small). Ideally I would love some bunks so the kids have permanent beds set up rather than sleeping on the drop down table. Any small vans out there that have bunks? Has anyone fitted small bunks to their van without taking away the integrity of the van? Has anyone holidayed for long periods with kids, whats your advice? When we head off early next year our kids will be 6, 4,1. Have a great day. Lastly I am looking at a couple of vans in Adelaide, is there anyone who can take a look? Kindest regards Tash

Hi Tashlowe, If you buy a 15 ft with 2 rear singles you can put a bunk across under the rear window and one side to the other on top of the dressing table. That way it can be removed for resale without too much bother. Cheers hughdeani

I did something similar in my Sunliner. I built what is essentially a long narrow table with foldup legs and a raised rail down each side. It sits atop the drop down table with both left permanently in this position. My 9yo sleeps in the top bunk on a self inflating mat. The 5yo sleeps down below. it works fine, but makes it quite difficult to get into the storage under the "seats" for the table.

Everything in a Clipper van is clever, including the owners!

Actually that is genius! I am getting my welding friend to make a little set of bunks like this. Just perfect. It is not permanent and does not take away form the integrity of the van. Kids could set them up in the annex on hot nights if they wanted.!! Thanks so much!

G'day Tash. I would love to see how your van ends up looking set up for three little kids. We have three boys (6, 4 and 2 year old). I'm hoping to find a van with a double bed and a single couch (that I can replace with triple bunks) whilst still having a separate dinette. We lived full-time on the road for six years in our motorhome(s) and the biggest nuisance we found in our smaller van was having to convert the dinette every night. We left home when our youngest was six weeks old and it was the best thing we ever did. How long is your van? Cheers, Tim

Hey Tim, your post is really inspiring! My current van is only 10 foot long. Unfortunately its too small for a family of 5 so Im on the hunt for something a little bigger. I love your profile pic. It reminds me of my first car, a VW station wagon I just loved it! I will post a pic when we are set up in our new van. King Fisher we have no real plans as yet. We have 6 months leave from work (at this stage) and plan to turn left when we hit the big Island. My partner and I lived in Northern NSW for a years before moving to Tassie so no doubt we'll eventually end up back there. I sell Vintage clothes online where my current van is used for market stalls and photoshoots. Photography is an old love. I intend to continue taking loads of pics and keeping a blog through Instagram (vintagewardrobetas) and my Facebook page www.facebook.com/vintagewardrobetas
