My little 10 footer has a very short drawbar which causes problems when the van is attached to the car because the rear corner of the car will hit the van on anything other than a shallow turn. Later model vans have a longer drawbar which gives a lot more room between car and van when turning.
Any suggestions other than getting an expensive new drawbar fitted? I have fitted a longer gooseneck on my towbar but it still isn't enough.
thanks earlee

We have fun like you earlee. The short drawbar on our 12 footer, 57 Chev fins, and a narrow lane outside the shed can be fun at times. :oWe found a local trailer builder :)who will look into fixing the problem when we have the finances. ;DHopefully before our big trip to Adelaide in September. The navigator (wife or child) come in handy in tight situations!!! Tickos

HI GUYS, the situation made all the more interesting when trying to reverse , in the dark , at 5.00am , foggy and raining on wet boggy grass with six people watching ! (you tend to do a lota loops and start again ! ) . My ute has modified steering ,very light , but a shocking turning circle , so dont have the problem of the van hitting the ute-erus ! (even doin the loops !) REGARDS MAURIE . p.s G'DAY John and Lynelle , thanks for a top weekend in the "GONG" , looking forward to Coledale in October .

I'ts Gary here with the small green van.... at the NSW All Holden Day, you know.. big man, small van ;D Whats all this about short drawbars, with our van it's ok, you just have to have the 6 people not only watching but also shouting directions, ALL AT ONCE Will we see you at The Holden Day? Cheers, Gary

Cos I'm new to the vintage caravan owner experience I don't really understand why the towhitch is so short in the first place! I mean...were all ther manufacturers of the 30's and 40's completely stupid? Or were the trailer vans designed to be towed with an A bar extension??? I only discovered this problem when the front of my poor Nomad Envoy was caved in by my Landrover!!!!!!

I'm actually thinking of putting on a front towbar(or would that be a pushbar) because the drawbar on the carapark is so short! The drawbar isn't even long enough to attach a fold up jockey wheel to! cheers
