Hi everyone. I got this old Wayfarer the other weekend. I plan to do a restoration on it. I was just wondering peoples thoughts on what era it would be from? I'm hoping its 1960's. Thanks.

Hi SP, Yep,it's 60s alright, pre 1966 I would say, when Wayfarer were trying to copy Franklin and Roma's aerodynamic shape. It's not the original frig though, that's a 70s one.Nice looking van, what are you going to do with it? Cheers hughdeani

Hi Hughdeani. Thanks for that. Yeah the outside looks to me 60's but the inside made me unsure maybe someone done a up date to the inside in the 70's. It's my first van and I'm a bit over my head but I plan to restore it over time. Cheers. SP

Hi Hughdeani. What would be the best way to find out what year my Wayfarer van is? It has a old rego sticker on it from 1981 there is still a rego number but all the other details are warn off. I was thinking of contacting Vic roads to see if they can find out of that, if not how else could I work it out? There is a number welded on the tow bar which is 072 is this just the 72nd chassis built for that year?Cheers Slimpickings.

The inside is standard for that era, only the frig has been updated. As for the age,the only way is to look everywhere inside to see if the builder signed something,eg under a drawer or inside a wall frame as you rebuild. From memory Wayfarer went from silver to white aluminium in 1969 or 1970. You van is NOT one of the last built though. Vic roads won't have a clue and won't have any records to sort through to help you either! I wouldn't go by the chassis number either as they are not also accurate. Cheers hughdeani

Gedday Slimpickings, Your van has a lot of identical features to my 1968 Wayfarer. Mine was purchased new by my parents and first registered in Feb 1968. Your floor tiles, cupboard laminate, table and leg, external doors and windows are all identical to mine. The main difference is your ali cladding has a different profile to mine. Someone may know if yours makes it earlier or later? Heres a link to an old thread of mine, if you scroll through to the end you can see some finished photos which show a lot of identical fetures to yours. vintagecaravans.proboards.com/post/14034/threadCheers, Brendan.
