Thanks for all your kind comments It has been a long journey to get the ol' dear this far Glad to see it at a finish ..... though really there are a hundred and one small things to add and finish off yet The other half is busy putting in all the girly bits and pieces, storage plastics as well as cooking appliances Looks like she has taken over the spending on the van bit for the moment This week will be three weeks in a row she has spent more on the van than I have ;D ;D ;D ;D The stickers were an after thought and cause the job turned out well Just haven't been able to find a decent name for her..... only one I like so far that has been suggested is "The Glass Palace" Might be a bit much to live up too though Cheers for now Atog

Hi Ron Thanks for the names..... Unfortunately I can't just pick one.... The Cheese and Kisses came up with a few over the past two years including The White Elephant, The Other Woman, The Mistress, His Folly and the latest one " Hubby's Cubby ".... ;D ;D ;D Seems it is destined to just be called "The Olympic" for the moment As one wit said of his car ..... "No matter what I call it.... It never answers" Cheers Atog

Hey Everyone In November last year I had a brain storm and figured I'd recondition some of the workings of the van So many dollars later and with a new aluminium reservoir - The Olympic now has a great set of legs Spent most of Sunday welding the new bracket on and fitting all the new hydraulic lines. Bleed them late in the afternoon and .... bingo!!!! works like a charm Yet to bolt it down ...... ran out of bolts that fit It appeals to my lazy side - now just stand at the front of the van to lower all four stabilizers...... tough life ;D ;D ;D Boblor tells me that Olympic regularly used hydraulics on their vans so this isn't anything out of the box The brass bodies were going to be all glitzed up ...... but decided not to bother..... looks good as is This van was apparently set up for the 1968 Caravan Show in Brisbane Cheers Atog

Hey Gents Thought I'd add a couple of photos of recent work on the van Decided to make a mould of the rear awning Because it was in good order and the front one isn't The mould will be used to make two.... one for front and back The original front awning was painted and repaired ...... but...... It still looks like it has gone a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson This is the original aluminium rear awning. Worse for wear after the mould was removed Took a far bit of the paint with it. Still useable but..... with a fair amount of work The mould was cleaned up, polished, waxed 6 times and then a new awning made in fibreglass over the top. The first photo shows the mould under the new awning (still stuck together) After a bit of belting with a mallet and quite persuasion..... This happened The mould is leaning up against the wall Have to remove all the excess fibreglass, fix the small problems, then cut and polish the front section. Before fitting to the van with stainless steel piano hinge Cheers Atog

Hi ATOG,
The Olden will tow anything , & do a good job towing the Olympic.
Dont matter much whats powering it, it just affects the travelling speed. It will always get you where you are going.

Looks amazingly rust free for a Qld car of that age, very very nice!- V8 or 6 cyl Atog? WB - last of the decent holdens for my money. With the gov subsidy a gas conversion on these is less than $1000, makes for very reasonable running - I do canberra to sydney for $22 with the 253 on gas jennison

Hey Gents Well the panelvan is not in bad order for its age There are a few minor rust issues as you would expect for a car in Nth Qld after 26 years Tailgate upper has some welding to do and the lower is in need of some attention as well Couple of rust holes in it here and there But all in all not in bad shape for the 450,000 klms on the clock 1983 WB Holden Panelvan First owner had it most of its life then has had three owners in the past 9 months...... me being the third Bench seat ........ actually part of the attraction.... now I can take the wife and daughter with me camping. One to cook, one to clean ;D ;D I'll get shot if either of them read that Column shift Auto 202 blue motor - purrs like a kitten No cracks in the dash and a standard dash..... GTS would have been nice oh well Came complete with roadworthy Knocked $800 off the asking price No need to go to the ends of the earth to get it either 15 minutes from home Needed something for work and for towing the Olympic so this is it for the next ...... who knows how long Sadly not this weekend..... Have to do some extra work to pay for the 6 months rego just put on it yesterday Rego and transfer fee..... $610 ouch Anyway have a couple of customers from my old trade asking for work to be done ..... they paid in advance .... gotta love that So this weekend is head down, bum up ;D ;D Over the coming weeks will do a bit here and there on it Mate of mine knows were there is a Premier stationwagon going begging. About to be wrecked Can have the whole thing for nothing or just take what parts we need..... got an airconditioner and power steering in it ;D ;D ;D Could do with an aircon and power steering..... So may just sneak over and have a look soon Tool box in hand of course Oh and did I mention the pvan has a towbar? ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers for now Atog

Hi Atog :)Thats a very nice panelvan, even though its not what you want it will fill the bill easily, and who knows, you might fall in love with it & keep it ;D The doner wagon is worth a lot, better than buying bits from the wreckers thats for sure, youre lucky there, just need a big back yard Surf Tragic

Thanks Gents She is a bit worse for wear in spots Still - with some care and attention you'd be amazed how quick she will come up nice Over the past couple of weeks have been busy making a mould for the tailgate upper section Do you know how difficult it is to get a good one of these? So made one in fibreglass instead of looking for one Mate of mine had one I could use as a plug but he wanted to keep it Needed to repair it before taking the mould off it Now that took about ......a week and a half Full 8 hour days for most of that ..... Finished this yesterday ready to spray-paint Took parts of two days to finish it to this stage Now getting undercoated and top coated at a mates place Made a box for the Olympic and disassembled it after More on that as I get closer to finishing it Also am making these.... moulds The white ones are the product..... IE the bits I want So ..... what are they for? Need to make sixteen Any guesses? Hopefully it will work.... not having made these or fitted them before it will be interesting to see if it works More soon ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Cheers Atog

Hey Gents The one thing about fibreglass that is a pest is the amount of time it can take to go off Meaning there is down time between each step So I tend to make several things at the same time Hence the rash of posts recently and nothing for a couple of weeks beforehand Also started this yesterday This is just a sheet of thin fibreglass bent to shape, screwed and clamped in position Then more glass is added to hold it in that shape Bingo you have a curved instead of a flat sheet As all the pieces in the making will need painting except the 16 mystery bits..... Now 8 cause I can cut them in half to do the job they are made for ;D ;D Lots of work being done on the Olympic this week as was made redundant about a month ago Seems the fibreglass ski boat industry is not what it was Added to that Cairns current unemployment rate is 13.8% Just a tad higher than the country's average So fixing the Olympic and WB Possibly will be on the frog and toad a lot earlier than expected Daughter only has a few weeks before she finished school ..... After that..... Maybe Daggsey and Kingy have the right idea..... All the photos say so Cheers Atog

OK Guys Give up? Cut the little white things in half and shaped them like this Why? So I could Matrix them to these You will also notice that there are now flyscreens in the van Yep... flyscreens OK so it isn't that big a newsflash But it is held in place with.... magnets Yep Jumped on the internet, found a supplier of magnetic strips Ordered a 30mtre roll total cost delivered $56 Missus cut and sewed the flyscreens up I fitted them along with the cut outs and bingo..... finished Added to that Completed and fitted the rear awning Haven't made the front one yet as it Cheers Atog

Little tip, Atog and others, the seal around fridge doors has magnetic strip in it.
Being the parsimonious bugger that I am, I get mine from the discarded fridges when there's a bulk rubbish collection.
Not much use on ally windows though ;D
