Can anyone please advise what this tape is that a previous owner has used to cover external joins on my vans roof? It has a silver/grey coating but the underside is a this tar-like substance. I have had to use a scraper and petrol to completely remove it. Regards, Bob

Hi bob , I'm not sure what it's called ,apart from being bitumen coat foil tape ,I haven't seen it for 20 years ,I repaired our van with it as a temporary fix , turps gets the bitumen off , I think 3 m products have a modern version that's used in the external cladding industries .cheers the moth

Best Results:
If there is framing under join, as there should be, use one inch wide aluminium crescent molding over the join. But first seal with Butyl mastic (the black stuff which doesn't harden).

Thanks to moth and Roehm3108 for your advice. I am still trying to get over the fact that I was able to attach a large photo to my thread. Previously when I had tried to do all the Photobucket uploading etc it was always late at night after a log day and my concentration levels were low. I did this very early in the morning and it worked!
Thanks again,
Regards,
Bob.

Looks like the pitchman/foil tape you can buy at the big green shed in the flashing section.

Thanks King Fisher, I took the last bit of it off yesterday and consider it to be very effective for what it was used for. The colour makes it match reasonably well with the colour of the roof and by the amount I had to scrape to get it off just to get at the screws underneath, I would be surprised if a drop of water would be able to penetrate it, especially when it is about 50mm wide.
Regards,
Bob
