Hello, I am after a piece of glass for a Viscount wind-out window. It needs to be approx 1488 mm x 240 mm x 3 mm thick, square corners at the top and rounded corners at the bottom. One glazier has quoted me $60+ but if there is someone in Adelaide with one they don't require, then I would be greatly appreciative.
Regards, Bob.

$60 is a fair price. I have had a fair bit of glass done for van windows and I would go for that.

Thanks Humpty, I have diverted my current efforts to polishing the skin panels of the van for now but as the broken glass is from one of my current projects (removing the fixed rear window and replacing it with the double hopper window) I am considering cutting the fixed piece of glass to suit the hopper window. Just too tired to make any executive decisions so will stick to the menial tasks for a while and somethig will work itself out for me.
Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob, this might be of interest to you. The size of the piece of glass you want is quite common esspecially in the Olympics , where the front and back windows are slightly curved, this as well as the narrow size of the piece makes them prone to break. I have had a few Olympics and solved the problem by joining two broken bits, As I had quite a few pieces (every Olympic I had had those broken) I cut two pieces somewhere in the middle of the window sash put them in,leaving a gap at the joint, fit the seals, put masking tape over the joint on the inside of the window, then put masking tape on the glass on the outside clear of the gap, about 1.5mm away from the cut edges and fill with clear silicon. By the way this is the only place you use silicon on a caravan.Every other sealing job should be done with non-silicon sealants, leaks as well as putting in windows. After curing just peal off tape. This works well and cost nothing,I still have quite a few broken pieces that would suit, anyone is welcome to them as I do not have that size window anymore. Regards Case.

Thanks case, that certainly gives me another option to consider. I had thought about 'gluing' the broken piece, which is only a small corner piece about the size of a fist, but wasn't sure about how it would look. I certainly like the idea if it can be quite unnoticeable and I am able to keep the costs down.
Regards, Bob.

Thanks to all those searching everywhere for me, the quotes I received online from some glaziers were in the $60 + range and Festival Glass in Adelaide did it for $30.00.

Bob
