I'm just starting on this little star, and would like some advice. The interior lining seems to be a shiny laminate, that also has a thin 5mm plastic stripping in every join. Because of the condition of the laminate (holes where hanging nails have been) etc, I would like to change the interior either by painting or re-lining with ply. Would paint stick to this surface? Also the upper cupboards have sliding doors, which cannot be removed to paint, the lining laminate would have to be removed to get them out. I have removed bed framing as they had rotted, hatch open (previous owners), she has been shedded for about 18months. On closer inspection the top of the door frame has rotted, my screwdriver went through it like paper, all the mastic (?) is erroding from most of the joins of outer aluminium shell. I would like to keep the original stove and fridge for effect, but won't be used. Should I just bite the bullet and completely replace the interior lining? I'm guessing I will be able to see any rotten framework from doing this, but not necessarily have to remove the outer shell. I tried to remove door frame, but it has been pot riveted at the top, and apparently I need a special thingy to get them out. I plan to make this my "lady haven" taking pride of place in my back garden, and won't be going out on the road.....and I can hear those sighs and eyes rolling fellas!,, I think I need a plan of action, a to do list in order of which jobs come first. Grateful for any advice xx

Hi inthevale68, I too have been wondering about painting shiny laminate ... but I found that if I went to youtube there are a few clips giving instructions on the steps you should take. Good luck with your reno. Dawn :-)

Hi Dawn, Thanks for that info, I will check it out. It is all a bit daunting but I'm determined to do it. It would be great if there was a vintage reno group that met, even on a monthly basis, so all these knowledgeable people could share their expertise. Sometimes reading information just doesn't compute! I'm more of a learning by "hands on" kinda girl (if you know what I mean ?

I think we are in the same boat ..well Caravan ..lol..as I feel the same way ... a couple of months ago I bought a 1965 Sandrover and it needs some structural repairs (I think someone with experience will be doing that for us). This group is really amazing and have a wealth of knowledge and if you have a look at some of the threads where people have done their own repairs its inspiring (and also horrifying as to how much maybe needed to do).
I think as we are all over Australia meeting might be a challenge but I think that some of them meet up from time to time in different places. And I would love to go to a Caravan campout sometime in the distant future when our caravan is on the road.... I can dream.
Anyhoo have a great weekend ... looking forward to seeing your 'Damsel den'. Dawn

I have been trawling through all the threads, for three nights straight but have forgotten most of the info I picked up (must be a blonde thang!) most of these guys seem to be professionals or have a background in 'men's business' .....but won't give up just yet or get too disheartened.....

Getting stuck in.....the little fridge has a gold emblem of what looks like a gladiator in profile? Would anyone know what make it would be? Also removing some of the ply there is a stamp of a bulldog (standing).

Gday & welcome InTheVale. Sounds like a Kelvinator emblem.A google search of logos/emblems should show you. A little Bulldog ply info can be found in our Technical Reference Library.

Thanks for that true blue.....I have been searching through Google for it but have come up with zilch!!! Now knowing it may be a Kelvinator may help me find it. I looked through the technical section and it was very informative thanks!

Yet another dilemma! Looked into painting the laminate, a lot of prep work needed and no guarantee it won't scratch off or give a professional finish. I would like to replace the interior with ply but husband is concerned the stability of the caravan will be compromised if I do this. Keeping in mind the floor, roof and outer shell will remain. Could I possibly replace each section one at a time and not rip it all out at once?

Gday ITV. As the laminate is rather thin (and i don`t see why it can`t be removed/replaced all in one go) then plod along with taking one or two off, using them as templates for the ply.All part of the joys of renoing. gordon
