You've found my weakness. Cushions. Cushions and vintage vans. My poor credit card.

It's the same old conundrum with a Dalek, how does it manage the step?? George To answer this conundrum, they hover/levitate their way up the steps. This was first shown in the episode "Remembrance of the Daleks" which aired in October 1988. If you are interested wikipedia has an interesting write up on the daleks here. Woops better go back to hammering something before my nerdy side comes out again...

G'day king fisher ..I think you might be a Dr. Who nerd aye ?? That is a very full-on write up about the Daleks isn't it ? .....but no mention of the Dalek - Driftwood connection maybe they were in breach of copyright and that could be the reason they are no longer available from where I got my cushions........ or is it because nobody else bought this great stuff, like I sometimes say.. if you don't buy this stuff they'll stop making it Cobber.

By the way I love the cushion with the dalek. And yes I also love Dr.Who, been watching it since I was a baby in the 70s. Unfortunately my favorite episode "The Celestial Toy Maker" no longer exists and is lost to time, except for the reproduction which just doesn't capture it properly. Unfortunately a lot of the tape recordings were wiped to record the next week's episode in those days, also a fire in the archives took out a few too. Maybe there was an episode that never went to air with a dalek and driftwood??? It's funny if you asked anyone if they watch Dr who the answer is nearly always 'No...' To all those who taught that Dr Who would never last or is not popular then have a look here, which proves how popular it really is, as it has been listed in the Guiness records a few times. Like our vans Dr Who has also endured the test of time being the longest running sci-fi ever. Sorry for the derailment... Oh no back to sanding something as my nerdy side is showing again....

Hmm Cam, reminds me of a song the Chasers did with a middle aged man in his single bed with Dr Who doona cover & memorabilia, 'It's so hard to get a (slot headed thingy).... when you're a fan of Dr Who, ah oooh, One of my brothers hogged the telly watching Dr Who, & the other 'Countdown'. I thought they were both rubbish when I was 8yo

G'day Kam, I did a Google for 'The Dalek and Driftwood' and guess what ? .... it came up with THIS ..... do you know if this one ever went to air ? Driftwood was the tenth short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips: Transmissions. It was written by Dale Smith. It featured the Seventh Doctor and Mel. Now.... as a Doctor Who nerd enlightened person can you tell me in what context the term 'Driftwood' was relevant in this short story, or was it used solely as a 'crowd puller' ...do you think I have grounds to sue them for unauthorised use of the name ? Looks like driftwood was intended to be another spin off series much like Torchwood. However it looked like with Torchwood's success, the Driftwood spin off was never continued with. Maybe one day they will write it. Otherwise cobber, you could always right up a script for them and submit it to the BBC... I can see it now: The dalek invasion of earth held off by a hardened government agency called Driftwood, Due to governmental budget cutbacks they operate out of a vintage plywood van, nick named after this secret agency, 'driftwood'... You never know where it might go.

OK Kam good suggestion, how do you think this one will go.
"Driftwood" by Dale Smith Cobber, 7th Doctor and Mel. The Doctor and Mel infiltrate a research centre where a translation device is being developed to allow humans and dolphins to speak to each other. The intention is to train dolphins to pilot space fighters that could intercept incoming enemy invaders. The Doctor gains access to the computer, allowing Mel to pass into the virtual world of the computer's intelligence. Mel finds that the computer manifests itself as a young girl, Emily, playing on a beach. Mel persuades the computer to lock out the scientists. Meanwhile, one of the dolphins, Kawili'kai, has killed one of the staff at the base and the guards are arguing whether to kill it. Mel returns from the virtual world and gives a translator to the Doctor who uses it to let Kawili'kai speak. The dolphin says that it killed in self-defence but it is prepared to die if it means it will help in a struggle to prevent humans from exploiting dolphins. A truce between the species is arranged when the first Cetacean ambassador emerges from the Thames in a tank mounted on legs vintage plywood caravan called "Driftwood"
Meanwhile, in the virtual world Emily is speaking to an Ice Warrior.
Time-Placement: After Delta and the Bannermen.
Kam, Are you sure this one didn't get published, could be a very rare one ?
Cobber.

People, forgive Geoff (n Jude) for he knows not what he is talking about Mate I'm flat strap working on the Alley van, got the bunk out, cleaned it up ready for new canvas and now cutting out ply to fit in a few of the internal corners, been working on the front window covers piano hinges that were seized up ( got 'em working OK ) and just grabbed a break to have a cuppa, now back into it. I don't have enough time to waste on all this Driftwood stuff but...... people keep provoking me Cobber.
