OK.....I'll mow the grass tomorrow We went to the Thirlmere Festival of 'Steam'..Frank was still there getting 'steam' all over his van I do like his tail lights, same set-up both sides of the van. If anybody has heard about the scandal surrounding the dried up Thirlmere Lakes .... relax, the water has returned Cobber.

Hi Cobber,
That brought back memories.
I was a member of the Picton - Thirlmere Bike racing (pushbikes) club when I was around 15, so that would be around 1962 I guess. We used to road race, & track race on the showground dirt track.
Also have memories of trying to learn water skiing behind a wooden boat, powered by Dodge Kew motor, around same time on those lakes.
Haven't been back since then, so I guess its changed a lot since.k
Thanks for the memories

Cobber - Memories for me too, Thirlmere was my home Town, I went to Thirlmere Primary School (many entries in the Caning Register) and Picton High.
The Rail Museum is quite good, When I was a young Lad it was a working Line and many Saturday was spent unloading Rail Cars for my fathers business.

I'm pleased this post brought back memories for you two blokes. No power boats on the lakes these days Den, not since around 1995, that is by 'regulation' , it's a national park and 'passive recreation' is all the go, but the lakes have been dry as a dead dingos tongue in recent times so water skiing wouldn't be much fun anyway At the moment they are almost full and look great. Rattles, the railway museum had a big injection of funds a few years ago and is now top draw, I reckon, well worth a visit for anybody interested in steam trains ( not on a day like today though, jam packed it was ) Nothing much else has changed around Thirlmere, still a nice quite country town, I'll bet there are a few vintage caravans hiding in sheds around the place. Picton still nice too Den, I could live there Cobber.
