So....... Ya wake up Boxing day .... oooooooooooooo... the head hurts.
What to do today
Hmmmm missus is gunna spend the day soakin up the sun in the pool!!
Naaa bloody boring ...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm time could be spent on the vans... Yup... Thats it. Ifn we aint going away in em it might be time for a bit more fiddling........
I remembered Gristys quote from the 3rd of September...
"Looks like you gunna have time to fit that fridge after all ;D
....
Righty-o then Gristy ... sounds like a plan.
When i was refurbishing Mildred/Rosie i thought i might have been able to squeeze a little unobtrusive ( geez thats a big word for someone that is still nursing a hangover) 3 way fridge in where the old ice chest use to live
....
But as you know i went apespoop and rebuilt a new ice chest... end of story.
In the meantime i bought a beaut little Electrolux fridge off of Gristy enterprises back about July or August. Got it up here to Newcastle and just threw it in the corner..... until Christmas eve when the missus informed me there was no room left in the fridge for my beer.........
WOT.....
... NO ROOM FOR MY BEER....!!!
Hmmmmmppphhhh... so of i heads dowmn the shed and stuffs half a carton in my old trust bar fridge... hmmm 12 beers xmas day.....Not enough to even get me light headed.
So i plugged in the "Gristyator" threw the beers in and slammed the door shut.
.............................
18 hours later..... ( 18 hours without a beer folks.... must be some sort of record).....................
Open the door to find 10 little happy brown stubbys almost frozen....Thinks : Thanks Gristy ... ya bloods worth bottlin"
So...... Christmas day came and went... and so did all the stubbies.
The little fridge had proven worthy of installation in the van. Even if it only works on 240v it will be a gods send...
So... back to Boxing day... Drag Rosie up to.. "The Shed of Invention".... Drag out all the wood butcherin' tools and into it....
I spend most of the trips away on my own. So when ya bacheloring on the road ya don't need too much hanging space in the wardrobe....
So.. It became the target for the new Reddotel all singin, all dancin .. "BEERDROBE"
;D ;D ;D
Take one large empty wardrobe...
Drill 6 X 1" holes in the tin wheel arch
Cut some nylon gauze mesh and glue over the holes so the creepy crawlys cant find thier way in and steal my beer
Make up 2.. "legs" out of 2" aluminium angle and a bit of 5 ply
Then make a timber base and frame that screws onto of the wheel arch and to the sides of the cupboard to give a strong base for the "Electrogristylux" to sit on... and bung it in place.
lower the existing wardrobe divider base frame to help support the top of the fridge .
Slice the old cupboard door into three bits. One bit gets a bit of strengthening and hinged from the bottom.. can store my going out double pluggers and steel capped cat kickers in here.
Top bit gets a new masonite floor with a 40 mm hole drilled above the heat pipe off the fridge so things dont overheat behind the fridge. Gunna buy a sheet of thin fibro to slide down there to help keep the heat off the plywood wall.. there is about a 30/35mm gap between the fridge and the wall . I dont want to cut vents into the side of the van ......
.. so i am toying with the idea of running a sort of chimney across the full width at the back of the fridge and making a flue out of sheet metal that tapers up to a chimney through the roof ... something about 40mmm round sticking through the roof like an old dunny stink pipe to let the heat out....
What.. two fridges and 2 chineys in a 9ft van... fa gawd sake Reddo... with all these gizzmos peole will start callin it a DON if ya dont watch what ya doin
Too much thinkin goin on for a head with a hang over in progress.... ... ummm where was i...... Oh yeah......moving on now......
An extra hinge on the door and the wardrobe is ready for my stubbys and truckies singlets to go on the hangers.
... Cut the front panel in around the fridge .. with a 40mm hole just on the bottom right to let the 240v/off/12v
control knob stick through. Gunna havta modify this later so i can get to the gas thermostat and igniter mech.... maybe a little hinge open panel or slide along bizzo will do the trick
last but not least ... run the power lead up the inside of the wardrobe.. drill a 12mmm hole.. take the plug off.. stuff it through the hole... refit the plug... plug him in.. turn him on.
Invite a dozen stubbies around for a cooling off party... pack em in the fridge... crank the thermostat up to "Max"... and wait....
....... naaa bugga that.. i have a secret stash of bundy inside... the stubbys can come later.
Well..... thats it from the shed of invention today... spent what was left of it travelling to Sydney today to check out what might have been the next towcar...
cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=120352611673Wasted 5 hours of my day....... shes a 12 foot F100..... looks neato from 12 foot away......
,... but hey... saved meself thousands by looking and not bidding....
If the link dont work bash in the numbers on ebay or just search on "pick up " in Cars, boats, bikes and look for the black 48 Ford Freighter..."Jim Beam " truck.
Times up... gotta go check how those stubbys are chilling down
Reddo... from the shed of dementia. ;D
