hi all we've just got home from a trip to the gold coast and found this email from reddo: Hi All
With approx. 28 vans and their owners ( at least 50 ) attending this years Christmas in July at Stockton Beach Caravan Park, I would imagine that there would be some people who would be glad to have a night off cooking ??
So .. with just 4 weeks to go to the big event I thought I might start an expressions of interest post and see just how many would like to head up to the Stockton Bowling club for dinner on Saturday night?? The club is only about 400 metres from the entrance C.V.P gate and easy stroll . They have a good chinese menu, and I think you can get the standard fare of fish and chips etc if chinese doesn't agree with you.
I am heading over to the park tomorrow to try and get exact number of sites booked, and see if we can get some sort of tariff discount seeing as though it is off season at this time of year??. I will call at the bowlo and see if they can fit us in on Saturday 18th July at ... saaaaayyyyy 6.30pm???
So....Have a think and .... if interested just send a text to 0401070541 with your names and number attending. I will report back here on the forum and let you know if the bowlo can fit us in and update total going as the texts come in.
I hope to get the list of local trivia/observation questions sorted out / finalised tomorrow as well. I was considering having a trivia night on Saturday night in the camp kitchen .. but I figure we could have an early ""Happy hour "on Saturday arvo around 4 ish in the camp kitchen..... ( Hey .. I have seen happy hour start a lot early at previous get togethers. ) That should only take an hour at the most and it will get everyone in a giggling mood before we head off for dinner up the bowlo.
Cheers Reddohe sent it on friday the 19th, so i suggest you send him a text to his phone asap if you want to be included in the dinner. (don't reply here or by pm, he can't read your reply)ps - we had a good time in qld but came home to find the breaker on the rcd had switched and we have a freezer full of very soggy meat, ice cream and vegies. geoff 'n jude

Hi everyone, We have just had a phone call from Fred Wright of Caravan & Motorhome magazine & they will be coming to cover our Xmas in July for the magazine. Fred spoke to us at Forster Motorfest & was very interested in doing an article & a DVD they will arrive on Friday & join our happy hours & cover our Xmas Dinner. Also want to know if there a few people that would like to join in with a road trip up north for a few days following the weekend this will also be on the DVD. Sorry for the short notice but this was supposed to be around the end of October but was brought forward to cover our festivities. Regards Ingrid & Cliff

howdy all the latest count has 35 vans coming to stockton beach so it's looking to be a pretty good christmas weekend. don't forget to bring your christmas lights to help set the christmas scene, we've gotta make those modern vans green with envy. also don't forget to contact reddo if you're interested in doing the dinner saturday night, the details are in a previous post. not long to go now, so those of you who haven't booked yet better get off your bums and give the park a ring. see you all soon, merry christmas. geoff 'n jude

WHAT"S GOING ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 35 V Vans .......pfftttt!...........you've got a long way to go to beat the record there matey!!!! Try 45 or 50 and you might be getting close!!!! Sooty. hi clyde you're right to question what's going on. we're a diminishing crowd these days, a lot of the "old faithfuls" seem to have disappeared so 35's a pretty good number - don't forget though that you pinch a few numbers from the north end of cockroach country. geoff 'n jude ps - i'm a devout(?) maroons supporter.

Hi,Sutcac,
How did you come up with the number 50? You don't have that many fingers and toes.
Would love to take Peanut down as she is now finished, but we fly out to Fiji that Sunday.
Anyone coming from north are welcome to stay over at Wingen on the way through .

Apologies to all attending but I've had to cancel for this weekend. If anyone wants my spot it was E5 if memory serves, and we're very much looking forward to seeing the photos next week.

Unfortunately we have to put in our apologies as well. I'm devastated by not being able to attend, we were so looking forwards to coming, but anyways, there's always next time. I hope you all have a fantastic time. I hope the weather is kind. Have a few drinks for us. We also had an ensuite site that will now be available. Hope to catch up with you all soon, Monica and Shaun.

Thanks for a great weekend everybody that attended. It was very good to see a joint venture weekend with all otp members and vc members having a ball. Reddo sure picked a great spot with plenty off history and organised a good trivia quiz and backed it up with plenty of prizes. Well done to Cliff and Ingrid and Santa for memorable entertainment. Cheers till next time Dave

hi all
we're back from stockton beach - what a great weekend with great people.
copped a bit of rain and cold but what else can we expect in the middle of winter.
thanks reddo for all your organising and for the trivia night, it was a big hit.
we can't show you any photos because our 3 cameras had flat batteries and we couldn't find a battery charger for any of them.
looking forward to the next getaway.

'Twas a a great weekend indeed and thanks again to Reddo for organising it all. It was however nice to get back to Canberra to some warm weather!!! That wind coming off the Lithgow snowfields on the weekend made it the coldest I have ever been so close to the beach!!!!!!!!!! Jenno

Hi Kel and Gai, It was a great weekend, wish we could have tagged along for the rest of the "tour" , but had to be back to babysit. You'll have to get your "crew" organised for Shellharbour, your turn to come down to our part of the world . I have 3 sites set aside for you, lovely grassy, sunny sites, right near the important stuff (amenities), so "Come on Down" Jude & Geoff

Hi Shesgotthelook
Seems like all the photographers have gone awol on this trip so here's a few of mine if I can transfer them ok.
Sprite by viva gt, on Flickr A young couple turned up with this 'Sprite' looking for answers to how old it was and where it originated, lots of conversations but I don't know if there was a satisfactory outcome for them.
Raod Cruiser-c by viva gt, on Flickr
Sugar Shack at night by viva gt, on Flickr
Humpty's at night by viva gt, on Flickr
A little homebuilt that has been re-clad. Homebuilt by viva gt, on Flickr
Hofmann Airstream Custom by viva gt, on Flickr
Highway by viva gt, on Flickr
Gypsy at night by viva gt, on Flickr
Griffin's Den II at night -c by viva gt, on Flickr
Don at night by viva gt, on Flickr
Boblor held court on the corner with four Olympics when his son arrived with his Debonair. With two other Olympics on the paddock they held their own with the Sunliners. I was too busy keeping warm and dry to do an actual count. Boblor's corner by viva gt, on Flickr
Wal and Anna who are part time Forum visitors and 12 months into Olympic Debonair ownership travelled up from Victoria to meet Boblor and other Olympians. They called to see ours at home as we were taking the bondwood. There was some criticism of their method of putting up the annex, but it was in fact a very clever and effective way to keep dry due to a leak in the roof!
Wal & Anna's Debonair by viva gt, on Flickr
VW & Sunliner by viva gt, on Flickr
Through the porthole by viva gt, on Flickr
Lots more of course, maybe someone will be spurred on to post them.
Hopefully this will all post correctly, fingers Xed.
George

Hi Griffin,
The first van you posted looks very much (to me) to be a Crusader. The side profiles & big front window are very much the same as one I had once.

G'day Griffin and JBJ,
I think JBJ is on the right track about the Sprite being like a Crusader...
Sprites were one of the models built in the UK by Caravans International, and are quite a famous brand over there. Sprites and several other models built by Caravans International were also exported to New Zealand. In 1972 Caravans International took over Munro Brothers in New Zealand (think RollyDog's Munro Pixie) and created CI Munro. Under the new name, CI Munro produced both Sprite caravans and...yep, Crusader vans...as well as a couple of other models.
So the little Sprite could be UK-built or NZ-built, but given our geography, you'd have to think it was probably built in NZ.
Regarding the age of the van, CI Munro changed from timber frames to aluninium frames in all its vans in 1978. So if the van has a timber frame, it is earlier than 1978, and if an aluminium frame, 1978 or later.

Hi All A few of us checked out the van with the lovely young couple from Sydney. Roger Horn joined us as he recently owned one of these little vans. Yes it is a Crusader. The yong couple had not long ago purchased the van and decorated it out as just a bedroom, very tastfully done. Now trying to get them into a bigger f/g van, as this young lady has interior decorating talent. Cheers boblor
