Hi all,
A few months ago I purchased a Franklin Safari caravan. The bloke I bought it from said it was a 1975, but having looked around this forum now believe it may be a 1966 based on the chassis number welded on the framework (2166-6), but suspect Franklin1 will be able to tell me for sure . It measures 14 foot internally. It was unregistered at the time and we organised a permit through VicRoads to get it home. My girlfriend and myself have had to do some work on it, with the help of my father and am getting close to wanting to get it registered.
Our problem is there is no compliance plate and when VicRoads search their system for the chassis number they turn up about 3 boat trailers but not my van. My other issue is I have no idea what the ATM and GVM should be. VicRoads are saying it may need a technical inspection before I can get it registered.
I was hoping someone here could help me with some guidance on what I need to do to get this registered.
I've attached some photos too (hopefully). I tried to take a photo of the chassis number but it doesn't photograph well.

Hi camo and welcome to the vv forum. A while ago I told of our experiences with registering Bessie our '59 home build in Gilbert's post ' Re van registration'. Bessie had absolutely no identifying numbers at all. It was a very easy process. I believe that you can use the existing serial number if it is on your van already, according to vic roads when I was inquiring. Just take a receipt to prove ownership and weigh-bridge docket to the interview. So as to not repeat myself I have included the quote from the earlier post. When we registered Bessie it was too easy. 1. Weighbridge docket 1040kg 2. Appointment for an inspection 3. Ring vic roads and get a vin no. And stamped onto draw bar. 4. Inspection on the day checked vin and length and lights only. 4. Was asked what the gross weight was and answered 1700kq (which is now recorded on the rego) 5. Paid money and recieved plates. No electrical or gas checks or even a look inside or underneath... I don't think you would have any problems.
