G'day all, A couple of months ago, I acquired this 1968 Viscount Valiant for a trip to the FE-FC and VV Nationals next Easter. Carrots and I then decided that a 12 month tour around Oz before becoming real grey nomads would be in order while we are still young enough to work our way around. I felt that the Globe would get knocked around too much over a long period of time, so have gone for aluminium (sorry Reddo ;D). The Valiant actually belonged to the chap I aquired the Globe from some 5 years ago (for a carton of midstrength ;D)...he passed away earlier this year and his widow decided not to keep it. Consequently, I feel a kind of spiritual attachment to this van. I will keep an update on progress as we attend to alterations.....we have set a timeline of Jan 2008 when we leave, so making this public will keep the pressure on me to finish the van and FC ;D bringing her home Fitting the new fridge.....forgot about measuring the caravan door width didn't I!! 1968 Waeco.......yeah, right Will give updates as we progress Daggsey

Your '68 Waeco looks just like the 1950 model I found for Marvin They don't spend much on R&D do they? Alan

Alan, I was obviously conned......my Waeco was sold to me as a 1968 model (and I paid almost as much for it as for the van ;D) Daggsey

Hi Carrots Good to see the Val getting a freshen up for the big trip. Tell Daggsey he isnt gunna get much done sitting on his butt contemplating the corrigated water tank.
He might of got away with fitting the fridge through the window but there is no way he's gunna find room inside that van for a 10,000 litre tin tank ;D
See yas at Mt Gambier Reddo

Howdy Reddo, I was contemplating how Daggotel Industries could bottle all that pure South Western Australian rainwater and cart it to the Mount and make a big profit by ripping off gullable eastern staters to pay for the trip across the Nulla ;D (I know what you really thought Reddo......you thought I was on the phone to my paint supplier in Bunbury trying to explain why I only ordered 2 litres of QD enamel and not 4, but if you don't tell anyone Reddo, I won't ) Daggsey Chief bottle washer, Daggotel Pure Spring Water

Hey Will, At the risk of the Grand Poobah consigning this thread to Grandpa Reddos Corner, can I say that I am disappointed that you have let the cat out of the bag with the corrugated iron caravan idea that Daggotel Industries was keeping under wraps . The suggestion to Reddo that I was going to sell bottled water at Mt Gambier was actually a ruse to put people off the scent. Unfortunately, all has now been revealed . The round design was for aerodynamics and the windows have been cleverly hidden behind corrugated iron shutters. The wheels are on a hydraulic system like an aeroplane in flight and because it is still under construction, the whole thing is sitting on jarrah stumps. Daggotel Industries is currently in negotiations with the Aust Defence Force to supply a number of these for trials in Iraq and Afghanistan as camouflaged moveable accommodation, known to us mere mortals as "caravans". Just like when a new model car is about to be released, the press seem to get "exclusive pics"......far enough away thank goodness not to notice things like the concealed windows which are currently under "patent pending". By the way Grand Poobah, I will be posting more photos of the Valiant under restoration just to keep this thread on track ;D ;D ;D, so no funny business, OK ;D Daggsey

Great job, Daggsey. It's looking good. One question though: Where do you find all those period fittings - and in such good condition, too. The 1968 microwave oven almost looks as if it's just come out of its box Don Ricardo

Hi Don Ricardo,
It's the old "thrill of the chase" when looking for period gear......I find if I go into country towns and see a Retravision or similar store, they usually have this "new old stock" tucked away somewhere out the back gathering dust. ;D ;D

What I particularly like are the 1950 shorts that you have been able to acquire. Naturally I will be collecting some more for you from the local Vinnies because you will need extras after entering NSW. You may even have to relinquish them at the border - you know what border security are like about flies!!

If we dont here from you by the end of the week we will take it that you and Carrots have had a "lift off" and are somewhere in orbit towing the Coca Cola Valiant can. Probably sitting around again waiting for the water tank van to fill up ;D Reddo.. from the east side..

Howdy Reddo (and others that might be interested), Just got back from the Beverley VV Museum (no TV there, let alone internet connection...even the electric wireless in Beverley is as crackly as it was in 1950 ;D)........ a major makeover of the running gear in the FC has finally been completed......more will be revealed in the fullness of time in regards to the estimated departure date of the FC and the Valiant.....photos also to follow The only Merilyn (guest) I know, is my little sister......only a sibling would make such comments about one's attire and know she could get away with it Daggsey

G'Day Daggsey The red on the effacy is a definite improvement, and ties in well with the red on "The Lady". Sacrificial burnings of ugly spats should always be backed up with offerings of alcohol to all worshipers present at the ceremony. I trust that this time honoured tradition was upheld. Dancing naked in the ashes and chanting is optional...... ;D She looks sweet mate. The rolling vintage van promotional billboard is doing wanders for our cause. Enjoy the journey no matter where you are present. The Reddos.

G'day Daggsey, A sad day indeed I hope that the new owners get as much pleasure from Madonna as you have Got me thinking about how a lot of us wonder where our old vans have travelled before we got them At least the last couple of Madonnas life has been well documented Thanks for the ride we enjoyed it ;D ;D ;D Bob and Jacqui
