Hi guys well Frankie is firmly in place up at my dads big shed and this weekend dad and I are going to tackle getting cream interior house paint off the checkerboard aluminum. The previous owner thought it would be a good idea to paint the top roll and front aluminum with interior cream paint. My query is can I use paint stripper and a soft nylon brush to get the paint off? I did an experiment with the paint on the window aluminum and it wasn't the most successful as the checkerboard makes it hard to remove. Now moving forward to the above problem is gone what is the purple polish stuff called that you actually shine aluminum with? I know I get it from 'auto pro' shops just don't know the name. Thanks guys - looking forward to Saturday!!! ?

Hi Carmel, you're right paint stripper is a waste of time and money. The pictured van was painted kermit green with a thick layer of bird droppings and lichen. Let me preface my comments by saying that I tend to be a bit out there with my methods, but the results are what counts! This is what I did - firstly pressure washed off as much gunk as I could. Let it dry. Then, wait for it, I got spray gun cleaner and brushed it on the paint and left it till it blistered. ( could have been lucky with the type of paint) Then pressure washed it again. Then I got a brass wire brush in the angle grinder and went LIGHTLY over it. Purple polish is great on flat surfaces, in my opinion , but not good on diamond finish - the black gets into the pattern . I cheated and sprayed the aluminium with kill rust etch primer and then aluminium epoxy. If you use gun cleaner follow safety precautions, cheers Les
