Hi all, My Viscount Valiant has 13 inch torana wheels and I am looking to replace them with 14 inch HT holden wheels (original wheels that came with the van). I also have the original Viscount hubcaps. They are in pretty straight condition just a little 'weathered'. I have enquired about getting them chromed (about $70-80 per hubcap) but was wondering if there were any other options? I have tried 'purple polish' and a rust converter type product and was thinking about soaking them in coca cola. I think the van had spent a bit of time near the beach and the tinny type metal seems to be salt affected. Any advice appreciated.

Well I ended up using quite a few different products, from the stupid (gumption) through to my favourite (purple). The brasso and kero concoction worked ok, but really stunk out our tiny house (I was working in the dining room). The hubcaps came up ok (I hadn't done the sides when I took the photo) but the corrosion could not be removed. There is still some staining/watermarks/cloudyness you can see in certain lights but I am probably being too picky. I think they are presentable for the time being, but will eventually chrome them I think. Thanks again for the tip.

You could try Superfine steel wool (00 grade) & wd40.Wear a pair of cotton gloves & use outside to keep the lil lady happy.Wipe dry & polish with whatever polish you`re happy using. gordon

yep I think they are, so they will never be as good as chrome. I just really wanted to get the corrosion off - which might require a good sanding through the various grits.

Alloy then the only stuff to polish them with is gear called Purple Polish, you'll be stunned at the result.
