I drove past Flulchers Caravans at Camden the other day and noticed that the trademark yellow bondwood was missing from the display window. I went past again tonight as a passenger and saw that the lights are on but there's no one home, the place is empty apart from one caravan. Does anyone know if they have moved again or gone belly up??? Maybe their bondwood will come on the market as did their other one some time back.

G'day George, Old Alex Fulcher had basically retired and handed the business over to his son, Alex used to hang around the place sometimes to help out, ( as old blokes tend to do.....sometimes) Last I heard was the son suddenly, and unexpectedly, passed away Christmas 2012 and Alex was forced out of retirement to run the show. The business ... or was it just the premises ? ...was offered for sale or rent some little time ago. The yellow Gypsy van was just a shell, no innards at all from what I was told, just found out it has been sold ? Alex Fulcher was awarded an OAM in 2013 for his Service to Australian CyclingSoon after they came to Camden I was talking to Alex about vintage caravans and he generously presented me with this model van ...... nice bloke Cobber.

Hi Cobber
Thanks for the info, good to hear the Gypsy has found a home, it might turn up on the Forum in due course. Shame such a long standing family business couldn't find a taker. Hopefully someone will record the history of the business straight from the horses mouth while the opportunity is available, rather than trying to piece it together in twenty years time.

Here you go George, it's taken a few years but this is your chance to bring it to the forum. SGTL brought our attention to the fact that it is offered for sale on ebuy at the moment. Apparently it always had its interior fittings. When it was on display in the Fulchers Showroom the windows were blacked out so I just repeated what I was told Problem is ..... I wouldn't have the heart to paint over the livery There is at least one other post regarding this caravan you can see if you click here Cobber.

Hi Cobber
Nice to see it has surfaced again. It is just what I want but I think if another van turns up here anytime soon, without one or more of the present ones going, I'd be taking up permanent residence in one of them in the driveway!! I'd have no problem painting over the sign writing and dispensing with the canary yellow either! A bit optimistic with the price too for mine.
As a bit of an aside, some time back I bumped into an old work colleague who used to live just around the corner from Fulchers and had his caravan in there for a repair on the fridge when the place closed. He wasn't best pleased when I mentioned the place because it turned out it was liquidated.
Why he wasn't pleased was because the liquidators cleared the place out in the dead of night using a fleet of trucks to remove everything, including his van, tradesmen and apprentices tools and vehicles, all the stock and anything that could be taken.
A simple note was left on the fence advising people to contact the liquidators and upon doing that he was given a date when his van would go to auction and that was it. If he wanted it he had to turn up and bid!
In due course he contacted Fair Trading who directed him to their web site for a claim form for whoever provides the insurance for such business disasters. He completed that and made the claim and in two weeks had a cheque for the amount claimed, no questions, no correspondence, Q.E.D!!
He and I, and I'm sure most people are staggered to think your property can be removed and sold in such circumstances. How does someone buying that van get it registered I wonder? There's no paperwork from the owner. I dare say it's all covered by the 'liquidators act of bastardry' somewhere that gives them the power to do as they please.
I've heard of such things on ACA but never had any dealings with anyone affected. He went to the Police initially, but it was considered a 'civil matter' out of their hands. Since then (received his payment) he has given Police a statement as they seem to be looking into possible illegal activities by the liquidators. He's heard nothing further.
Something to think about though if you have your pride and joy in somewhere and the business is not going so well.

WOW, how would you know that a business that old was not going well??? I think regardless of how solvent a trader is, the trick is to pay at least 25% deposit up front. It may secure your ownership to help stop or be in a position to take legal action against any un notified claim from the receivers/liquidators. Remember most places have a sign about leaving items unpaid/uncollected for more than 3 or 6 months and a possible claim noted. Big bucks project spends on low value toys are most vunerable.

very interesting. I have a supposed 1954 Gypsy 10. Mine has aluminum windows with only J molding over the front windows. The one being advertised does not have the 2 windows in the rear as does mine. Plus there are a few other differences. As for the asking price........? I have the funny feeling that there was a post somewhere on the forum of a member stripping the out side off the Fulchers to restore it............nope sorry what I was remembering was this vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/9000
