Evening all,
My friend Wal, who has recently joined the vintage/classic caravan fraternity, has been told about a Wayfarer caravan that is available - possibly free - to someone who is willing to recover it, and has asked me to post some photos of it. The van is located on a property that is for sale near Cardinia Dam, east of Melbourne. The van will need to be removed before settlement, whenever that ends up being.
The description of the van from Wal:
"Sure it needs a lot of work but would be a good basis to start a project with. To begin with, it's under cover (a huge open-sided carport) and it looks as thought it's been there for years. The paint on the RHS has peeled due to facing north to the sun. However the whole of the body shell looks reasonably sound, with sections of minor damage obvious (see front aluminium dents). No sign of rot anywhere in the door, some obvious around LHS wheel arch. All windows, except rear, are there and intact, apart from a small hole in the LHS front rear corner perspex right on the bend - see photo. I don't know what's with the rear window - it's covered with sheet of tin. The frame might be there but I didn't see it. Inside, it's just about all gone, except for the overhead cupboards which seem to be in excellent condition. It's been stripped out and a double bed constructed at the rear and all painted inside. It has been someone's bedroom or sleepout. No cupboards, no wardrobe, no stove or fridge, not even a table. Personally, I think it would be suitable for someone who might want to restore the outside to 1950's glory and create a modern interior. A blank canvas, so to speak. It would be a waste to take it to the tip...I would like to see it go to someone who really wants it and will do something with it, not just hoard it away.
"Access to see it will be fairly difficult - probably only at 'open for inspection times' and will need to be arranged through me (Wal) then via the agent...who will co-operate, I'm sure...By the way, I think all of the internal lift-up fly screens are still there and the porthole has fixed flywire."
Here are the pics:
The van has partly been protected by the various bits and pieces lying around it:
The rear window has been covered with tin - and decorated with a mirror!!:
The arrow points to a small hole in the front left hand wrap around window:
Paint peel on RHS:
Front badge:
Back badge:
Internal - front:
All overhead cupboards have sliding doors:
Rear:
If you are interested in having a look at this van, PM me with your phone number and I'll put you in touch with Wal.
