Hi there, I have recently bought a vintage caravan and would love to know more about it. I don't know what year, make or model it is. The only thing I could find is a deluxe badge on the wardrobe. Any information would be appreciated. s1283.photobucket.com/user/clarkjenna1/slideshow/Thanks Jen

G'day Jen, and welcome to the forum! Can't tell you anything about a brand. I can't say I've seen that type of cabin shape before, so it could very well be a home-built jobby. The timber frame windows suggest it was built prior to the mid-1950s. Some photos of the interior might help narrow down a building date. cheers, Al.

Hi That van looks very similar to David.. from Queenslands van. His surname escapes me... I met him at Esk and again at Kirra van park at Wintersun 2007. Someone will come back with his name and maybe a photo of hgis van so we can compare it to JenJens van His van is approx. 15ft long.. thats big for a bondwood single axle .. and the outside wall sheets are vertical the same as Jens van. The interior of Davids van has herringbone veneer style timber work on the doors....and If its the same as Jens .. well I am guessing early 50s. So for being so vague .. but an answer to your question wont be too far away. Reddo

You could be onto something there as I was told it came from QLD and it is 15ft. I will go down tomorrow and take photos of the interior, Thanks for your suggestions

Hi, I reckon its likely to be home made, probably late 40's/early 50's. The van referred to by Reddo is owned by David & Lyn,& that one was built in Brisbane just after WW2. Some photos of David & Lyn's van. Some similarities, but I think they are more period related than copying anything. Still nice to see it still out there. What wheels are on your van?? Sometimes that can give an indication of its age. JBJ

It reminds me of a wooden Carapark that was on eBay in Echuca a while ago. Too long ago to find the pictures unfortunately. Have a look here; vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/2001/carapark-caravans?page=3Pages 1 & 2 worth a look also. Maybe it's a Carapark Hunter Deluxe? I could be way off but worth a squiz. Also similar to the 'Practical Householder- Build your own caravan'

Hi jenjen,
I would have expected that when that van was built, it would have been probably fitted with Chev or Ford 16" wheels. Chev are 6 stud, Ford are 5.
13" wheels from Holden didnt come out until late 1956, & I would think your van is older than that, especially taking the window style & shape into consideration. Also it would appear to be a heavy van, & not really suited to the smaller diameter & lighter load capacity of the 13" Holden wheels in my opinion.
With homemade vans, I've found they can near impossible to age correctly, unless you can find something in them to help.
For example, when I was rebuilding "Lucille", a home made I bought from the son of the builder, I was told that it was built around 1958.
When I pulled a cupboard apart, I found an old cheque book, with butts listing expenditure on various things. The last entry was early 1958, so I think I could be fairly sure that the date I was given was pretty close. Unfortunately that lucky find doesnt often happen.
So hopefully a clue will show up to help you date it.
Thats part of the fun of rebuilding old vans

The shape of it reminds me a bit of some of the earlier Litecraft vans - click here . Note the almost vertical front and the roof curving downwards towards a rounded rear, as well as the placement of the windows. We don't have enough info about Litecraft vans to say that yours is one of those, but I would like to know what similarities and differences you can see. There was a van on Ebay quite a while ago with a similar shape to yours and with one side painted and the other varnished. Do you know how long yours was for sale before you bought it? I'm wondering if it's the same one. I think there are pictures on the forum here somewhere, but I haven't been able to find them. Don Ricardo

Hi Helen - I think you maybe right !!! It's getting a lot of love even making bookings before it's complete !!!! I won't show you the photos at the moment, but have not forgotten to send them through. It will still be a few months away, but we are very excited! To everyone else - could it be a Chesney Caravan
