WHY CAN'T I POST PHOTOS ON THE FORUM USING THE 'ADD ATTACHMENT' BUTTON?
If you are wondering why you can't post photos on the forum using the 'Add Attachment' button in the Create Thread or Create Post screens, then the answer is as follows...
In the newest version of Proboards, which is the web based platform for our Vintage Caravans forum, Proboards has introduced a monthly attachment space limit. This means that once the forum has reached its monthly limit, no-one can add an attachment until a new month commences. Nor can anyone click on an attached photo to enlarge it. When the monthly limit is reached anyone trying to attach a photo or enlarge a photo receives one of the following messages or similar:
"Error: This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit. Your file cannot be uploaded"
or "Oops, there was an error! This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit."
or "Oops, there was an error! This forum has exceeded its attachment space limit."
This applies to everyone on the forum - it doesn't apply to particular individuals and isn't related to your ISP (internet service provider) or the size of the photo.
To avoid this problem the sponsor of a Proboards forum can pay to have the attachment space increased. However. in our case our forum sponsor, Mark T, basically pays for the cost of running the forum from his own pocket with a little bit of money coming from the sale of the occasional forum stickers or calendars, so it's not fair to ask him to increase the attachment space because it will add to the cost of operating the forum.
So what's the answer when you want to upload photos to the forum?
There is no problem with, or limit applied when uploading photos from Flickr, Postimage or one of the other on-line photo sharing websites. So if you upload photos that way the problem is solved. In addition using one of the photo sharing websites overcomes the limitations of the 'attachment' method of posting photos. These limitations were discussed here.
The moderating team recommends that you use Flickr or Postimage because they are as easy to use as any of the photo sharing websites, and simpler than some others. But the choice is yours.
There are instructions on how to post photos from Flickr and Postimage in the 'Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints' section of the forum. Just click on the blue hyperlink.
