Returning from the NATS we free camped along the way taking a whole week to return home. Since the NATS we really have been busy and not in the vanning sense. For Bessie's 6th trip out on 22/08/14 we joined many others at Old Dad's Well near the Grampians in Vic. So as to not repeat many of the Pix have a look here. Fantastic weekend away, however wiffie was starting to get a little round.

Last weekend we popped down to Bret's Torauay Weekend just for a day trip on the Saturday, to give our youngest member of the vintage caravan forum and the new member of the King Fisher family (John Vu born 30/10/14, 3.59kg) a chance to meet up with the extended vv family. (And to admire some loverly vvans)

Hi King Fisher family,
We've said it on the Torquay event thread, but we want to say it again: Congratulations on the birth of your lovely son and welcome to John. We hope you will have many happy journeys in the caravan together, and trust that John's holidays in Bessie will be amongst his fondest memories of his childhood.

Thanks Don, We took John out for his first trip just after Christmas, Pickies coming soon. He seemed to cope ok with the 1 week we camped out in the bush (unplugged). We hope that he will have many fond memories as he grows up of vanning around Oz (and the fun of going around raiding everyone's lolly jars at vv events ).

An interesting thing happened while we were camped at Foster. When we first arrived we drove up and down looking for that 'perfect' spot to camp, as you do when given so much choice. Eventually I chose a spot just on the edge of the big tree and opposite a modern van, which was parked on the other side of the dirt roadway. We got chatting and they were friendly and even joined us around the fire. They had mentioned that they were going to visit relatives in Langwarrin, down near Frankston. Taught nothing of it until the last day when they were packing up and mentioned the name of the person who they were going to see. I nearly fell over as they were going to Langwarrin to visit and stay with my Uncle and Aunty! Turns out she was my uncle's, wife's sister down from Queensland and they pulled in there for a few days rest before heading off to visit my aunty and uncle. Small world hey, so be careful around moderns, or anyone for that matter, you never know who you are talking to . Our modern neighbors.

G'day King Fisher, Thanks for sharing the photos from your latest outing with Bessie. I was particularly chuffed with the fact that you started the first post of the series with 'Trip 008'. That means that you're planning at least 992 more before you have to re-set the counter. Go for it, I reckon. Fantastic to see young Prince Fisher getting into caravan life as well. He will have great memories from his trips with you. Looks like he's developing really well too. You're right about the stuff you have to take with young children. Once we got to two children we realised we had to graduate from our original 10 ft x 6 ft annexe (now sadly lost to us) to a new 12 ft x 10 ft one. Even then it got pretty cramped once our three boys became teenagers. If you reckon you have to pack a lot now, just wait until John is a teenager - bunk stretchers, bikes, surfboards, sports equipment, storage for 15 changes of clothes a day, etc, etc. As JBJ says "It's all fun!", and it is. Wouldn't have missed a minute of it, except perhaps the night they all got a stomach upset in the van... Anyway, enjoy your time with John, Wiffie and Bessie...and get ready to show us the pics from 'Trip 009'. Don Ricardo

Trip 009-Echuca 29/05/15 On our way to Echuca we kind of took the scenic route. We stopped off at Williams town just out of Melbourne for breakfast by the beach. Parking near the old time tower. This tower used to be used by the ships to syncronise their clocks before heading out to sea, as accurate time was required to do the navigation on the ocean. Just before 2pm (from memory) the big black ball was raised up, where the ships would gather out at sea and watch through a telescope for the dropping ball at exactly 2pm, where they then adjusted the navigation clock on the ship. Breaky stop John got his first of course Always love the different views you get from the van when stopping places Nearly time to move on We also stopped at Dromkeen Homestead, where we enjoyed the best Devinshire tea I have ever had, the scons were devine. And enjoyed the artwork from many childrens books and got a sneak peak at the war art display. Spent more time there than expected and had to keep moving so we could get to Echuca before nightfall. We then stopped at Toolleen for lunch in a loverly picnic area just oppisite the pub Where Wiffie cooked up a storm Last stretch of the legs before arriving at Echuca

While in Echuca we went for a little drive to Mathoura (half way from Echuca to Deniliquin) on the NSW side where my late aunty and uncle used to live. I was really interested to see if the local op-shop called the “Treasure Box” was still in operation. By the time we got there it was shut for the day, but looked well stocked. My late aunty Pat helped set up this shop to earn money to support the local Uniting Church. She did the artwork on the windows. It brought a tear to my eye to see that her artwork is still there (although a bit faded) and the op-shop that she spent so much time and love setting up not too long before she died was still there. We will have to come back next time when it's open for a browse. Even the map she drew up and put in the window is still there...
