NATS 2014 Broken Hill: We finally arrived and joined the bank-up at reception and got our spot. Funny though the next day I got a phone call from the park reception asking if we were turning up or not... While there I unfortunately didn't get around to all the vans. So here is a good selection of NATS camping pix. Better late than never...

... Pictures removed due to a complaint ... that's a shame kf, i can't imagine why anyone would complain about your pictures - unless they became insanely jealous of the good times you and the family have had. in the words of someone much more famous than me, "why are people so cruel?". for my money, bring them back. geoff 'n jude

G'day K/F, ONE complainant, against the many who have enjoyed your photos, just does not warrant their removal. What were they whinging about ?.... Remember at the Broken Hill dinner I mentioned that I found your photos were, for me, slow to download. You explained that it could be because you host your photos yourself instead of using photobucket, fair enough, for my money they are always worth the wait. If that is what somebody was complaining about...... PUT THE PHOTOS BACK and tell 'em to go make a cup of tea while they wait for the download .....or go look at the 'Where's this' thread Cobber.

I have been looking at the situation which is that a more senior forum member who is using prehistoric technology (dial-up or G3 mobile) complained about a few issues in a PM yesterday: 1- They use dialup/G3 Mobile and appear to have only a small Internet account, complaining about large number of photos posted in one go. 2- "Consider irrelevant or duplicates of other photos" 3- "Don't post phot's of empty roads" 4- "Likewise photos of your family! I realise you love and care for them, but this IS A CARAVAN website” 5- not Facebook! My response: 1- Personally I think some people need to organise a connection with a better data usage plan, there are plenty out there especially for mobiles offering multiple Gigs (1 Gig =~1000 Meg) of download with reasonably priced rates. If you have to have dialup dodo can do unlimited for $1 per month. For interest if you add up "EVERY" photo I use on this forum so far and downloaded them all the total space used is ONLY 62 Meg!!! (0.062 Gig). This aside I will recheck the photo sizes and further reduce them if possible without making them too grainy so they use less bandwidth to load and load quicker on quirky connections. 2- Maybe missed a couple now and then, hard work when sorting through thousands of pictures - this is one of the reasons why I have removed them at the moment, to sort out the duplicates 3- Funny caravans go on roads and we all love where they take us. Sit back and imagine for a second a 50s van trundling down some of these remote roads exploring in times past. Otherwise I can always photo-shop a van onto these roads if that's better... 4- From what I understand caravaning in the 40s, 50s and 60s especially, were 'always' a family event, which involved traveling with the family and friends to lovely places with great scenery. Many people would agree that Vintage Caravaning is all about recreating these times. 5- Yes this is not face book, and I realise that this person is resistant to the social aspects of the Internet but basically "get used to it"... In conclusion going by the replies to the removal of the photos it looks like they are a lone voice in the crowd, as there seems to be a fair following that enjoy seeing them, and have had no problems with the family content, or travel location content, so far. That being said the democratic process of majority rules must prevail. This means that the photos should return soon. Moderators, if you feel this thread is better in the 'whatever' thread then kick it across at your discretion.

I usually stay out of conflict . but , i enjoyed the photos .this forum runs on enthusiasm and if the is not there for any reason posts will dwindle .and seems to be in my opinion sometimes over policed , but then again if you are the owner of the website and pay the bills you are in charge , , . if the download is to big the forum should be set up like the " caravaners forum " for modern vans , it has a very simple photo system ,no photo bucket , and the photos go on very small (small download ) ,if you are interested you click on the photo and it blows up to a full page , as most people are traveling have limited email access .
cheers kel.

After you have done all your research on slot head screws, towel rails, ice chests, repainting etc........some of us get out and use our vans which I believe is the natural progression Keep the photos and stories coming. Koala

Just to clear thing up it's not the owner who has a problem with it but another member with slow Internet. None of my photos are stored on the vintage van forum as they are hosted on my own server at home chundling under the desk. All photo's are simply links where your browser redirects to my server to download the photo from there to your browser for viewing. So it's not an issue of storage as I impact 0 Kb on pro boards file storage, nor has the owner expressed any concern.

Keep the photo's coming KF. I'd love to have the time to stop and enjoy the scenery to and from these gatherings, but time is always a problem for me. So...you keep taking the photo's and I will keep looking at them. Cheers Steve

Keep em coming Cam, (except for pics of me!). Although your pics are slow to load for me, I'm ADSL 2 with the best router I could get. Although, as someone said earlier, I go & do something else while they load & if I don't have time, leave it for later.
A lot of us take a lot of time & trouble to resize & upload photos of events & things that may be of interest to the vanning community. Not everyone has the same interests or tastes & that is great! I do understand that many have slow internet, low data plans or log in on their phones. I like Bigkels mention of how they run the caravanner's forum. Maybe worth looking into.

Hi Kam (Koala, and other happy snappers) - For those of us who weren't lucky enough to go to Broken Hill, or to on other trips recently, I enjoy seeing other people's pictures. I appreciate anyone who a. remembers their camera, b. remembers to take photos, and c. takes the time to share with others. If you can't get out there, the next best thing is seeing someone else's adventure. Also, I always do like seeing pictures of people using vans. It helps attach faces to the kit, so when we DO end up at socials I don't have to call people "Mr. Blue Sunliner", or "Madame Quest with Red Stripe"... Keep up the great work! Seeshell

Certainly wasn't the "owner" of the forum who made the complaint, ...I too enjoy Bessie's travels, ........and Koala's posts and others We're about getting out and about in our vintage caravans, so pics of being on the road in our vintage caravans with family are encouraged. Bessie's travels also include good pics of our recent event at Broken Hill. keep em coming ....... Mark

Hi King Fisher, I love the Holden shots from Broken Hill - especially the panoramic photos! Well done, you've somehow captured something about the Holden conclave which is a bit different to the other photos from the event (which were also great to see). Really nice!! Maybe we should have done a Ford shoot as well? Or do you think our moderns would have looked out of place somehow? Don Ricardo

... Maybe we should have done a Ford shoot as well? Or do you think our moderns would have looked out of place somehow? ... Remember everything vintage started new and modern at some time. Might have been a good historic shot for the future... Demonstrating how some people went for reliability not looks....
