Yes I have been slack about repainting the spats on mine, it had them originally too.One of those gunna get to it jobs!! Pressure is on now from Andrew to pull my finger out!!! I think they stopped having them about 1955/56. After that they had a "spat" or "flash " that angled forward and up in front of the wheel arch to just above wheel arch height and then ran in a straight line all the way to the rear of the van. jenno

Hi Akeepsake - The Jennisons were admired, and copied by home builders if our van is anything to go by - both the livery, split windows and very large hatch are incredibly similar! You're doing a lovely job on the van - I look forward to seeing the latest installment in the serial! Shh! It's time for my "story" - Seeshell

Cobber the Jennison was so smart looking that even toys mimicked it! Some even hold the opinion that ol36 is copied of the Jennison road cruiser .or intact is a Jennison ;)As Jeff stated post ww2 till mid 50s the spat was on all the Jennos My favourite is the pre warJennison nomad stripe / combo ( rh side van) Seeshell ,thanks for your comments!! I had read your resto thread a while back and always thought your " blue flyer" had a good look to it !! R u contemplating a waist stripe and painted spats maybe Jeff the pressure is well and truly on !!!

It's interesting how the ply board was joined on the side panels and not just one piece. Any idea of how they have joined it to make a good strong water tight seal??? Can you see if they use a resin or corking compound in the joins??? jus a tad curious...

Hi Kfisher here's a close up of the ply it looks as though they are butt jointed at the frame nailed and glued ( the 1948 Jennison brochure states "all joints glued") The white " filler is the same as what was on the corners but their really isn't any as it's a very neat fit!!

I have seen few different brands of vans that have "Pinking Tape " over the joins in the ply. usually on the vertical joins a woven material tape about 2" wide .... "pinking" is the zig zag cut down either side of the tape. Similar to the stuff used on old planes. I think the idea behind using the zig zag profile tape was possibly to help it blend with the side of the van rather than use normal straight side tape...?? Just another one of my half baked theories. Still remember mum cutting out dress patterns with what she called "Pinking shears" ( scissors). Reddo

You will have to excuse the double posting... I tried to edit/ delete... but haven't found a way of doing that yet...Short of shooting the new .. improved... never let you down system we have to work with. Reddo With fabric the zigzag edge stops a woven material from fraying. If you cut straight the thread running along the outer edge peels away, followed by the next one, and the next.... Presume the same logic would apply to woven fibreglass?

Reddo Reddo and Kfisher the only place my Jenno had open weave tape was on the corners ( see previous posts re this) However this factory photo shows some kind of bond running where the frame is ( not just the joints )covering nail holes) could be a filler ??

Not much going on due to weather and work getting in the road of a fun VV reno pulled out windows and stripped them with the heat gun they are ply over a wooden frame and are in amazing condition! Scored this today at a little s/h shop in the back blocks .In great nick and will go well with the Jenno

The Jenno had no original innersprung cushions as they had been discarded a while back so I advertised on the forum a while back and was very fortunate to pick up a dinette set from a 49 homade that were replaced ( thanks Colleen!) They fit in perfectly and when I get the singles I will recover them all the same!!!

Well had a bit of a play tonight with daughters left over paint from an arvo of creating artistic masterpieces Seeing she had some left over I decided to see if I could find original front stripe under the blue paint before stripping it . Here's what I found..... It'll look much better when it's done real proper like! But you get the idea!

Well it's been a while since any work has been done on the Jennison. The Tassie winter came early and the cover went on the old girl cause I'm sure I saw her shivering! ...or was that me? Anyway like most Reno threads , first comes the Caravan then comes the shed! I have had a small 6x3 metre shed out back but it is becoming more storage and less productive so decided to bite the bullet and build a 9x7m garage out front The cars are outdoor creatures so will have enough room for 3 vans at least......Yes I have got the disease but a man needs a shed! Here are some pics Clearing the sight First sod turned Stumps away Hopefully slab will be poured Monday. Stay tuned!

G'day akeepsake The photos of the factory are great, just the thing that has real atmosphere, the smell of wood & ply Now you're about to start on some construction for a good sized shed project, all my favourite stuff. hope it goes well, evidently you will have gone through all the red tape of plans, permits, (and fees), so the rest should be easy going. Giday ST yes can't get enough of the factory pics! Have studied them intensely looking for clues etc! Pics are from "Jennisons" ( Jeff Gil's ) collection from his grandfather John Jennison ( builder of my van) there are heaps mor picks in DHL! Can't wait for the man cave to be smelling of wood and all things associated with restoration! Council is all sorted .....finally . It seems like you just have to keep throwing them money and it's all ok! But that's the way it goes! More progress Reo tomorrow, concrete Monday That's if the rain stays away

Hi akeepsake Have been looking at your progress on both van and new shed and sitting here thinking to myself... Isn't it funny how one hobby can dictate what happens to your lifestyle and surrounds.... and bank account . You got a vintage van... that is now consuming a lot of your spare time.. Then that situation dictated that you should build a good sized shed to work in / protect the van. and.. How many times have we seen here on the forum .... someone finds a van, then decides they need a period towcar... or.. has a nice period tow car and decide they need an accessory like a vintage van.... and... then realize they need a bigger shed !!!!... Which brings us back to the start of this post. Keep the story and photos coming. I'm loving it.... it's restoration motivation stuff for the rest of us. Regards Reddo

Regards Reddo Reddo , Here's how it's unfolded so far!...... Brought a vintage van to take the tribe camping ( 63 Millard) . Got the vintage van dreaded "Bondwood Fever". Tracked down a rare antidote called Jennison Pathfinder. Sold my pride and joy Repsol cbr1000rr motorbike to buy a Eh wagon tow car Realised I was putting the cart before the horse and needed a shed to house the cart .......the horse would have to wait so the money went towards the shed Saw another bondwood on a farm property and had to save it and brought it home (60's 12'Phoenix) Sold my Millard to help fund future tow car Found a homemade 10 footer I just loved and brought it Leftover money went on slab, council building permits etc A quote I read today said: "I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be" Ended up so far with a three carts, a half build stable and still no horse ........ ......but lovin it ! Glad you're enjoying it!

You should have listened to your wife and bought the Jayco. It would have gone perfectly with your minivan and you could've left it outside. No need for an eh wagon. No need for a shed. More money in the bank. Happy wife. Happy life. It's not too late to change your mind Andrew.
