But what I do not like is that when you get to the bottom of a page, you have to scroll back up to the top to go to the next page/see if there is a next page Am I missing something?? Hi Linpet, When I scroll down a page I am finding that the little bar at the top which allows you to navigate to the next page and/or choose an action or search 'floats' at the top of the screen. So whether I am the top of the thread, the bottom or somewhere in between, the floating bar is still at the top of the window. The bar shows the total full number of pages in the thread and allows you to select whatever page you want to go to or just 'Next'. To me the 'floating bar' is better than what we had, because previously you had to be either at the top or bottom of the page to go to the next page. Now you can go to the next page whenever you like. If you don't have the 'floating bar' maybe it depends on the web browser you are using, although I hope it's not! That would be annoying. (I'm using Safari for this post, but most often use Firefox.) Don Ricardo PS I just discovered that while that what I wrote applies to individual threads, it doesn't apply to the list of 'Recently Updated Posts. Maybe that's what you were referring to?

My laptop with XP installed has 3 web browers installed. Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. The floating page number bars shows in all browsers at the top of the page when scrolled.

Cobber, don't quote me but it looks like you can put three attachment photos into the one post. That seems to be the most number put into a post on the Classic forum. I don't use the attachment function, so I don't know for sure. All I know is that it's a bugger to edit them as a Moderator, when the poster has put them together in a haphazard way.
Haven't heard anybody whinge about clicking on the latest posts on the home page, only to be sent to the start of Page 1 of that thread, and not to the actual latest post. That's probably the most annoying thing I've found with the new version.
One other trick I discovered is that when creating a post, it gets created in the BBCode format. You can then click on the [Preview] tab to check it before posting. (Pretty much the same as how it was done before). However, you can now leave it in the Preview format and still make any further changes you require. You don't have to keep switching the post in and out of the BBCode format to keep making changes.
The method for creating hyperlinks into your posts defies my logical brain, but once you've done it a couple of times, you get the gist of it.
cheers, Al.

Thanks Al, do you mind if I quote you ?
How about the new 'thumbs up' button over there on the right? If you like somebody's post but can't be bothered responding, or feel you have nothing to add to it, you can give them a 'like' .(.thankfully, I don't see a 'thumbs down' button, that could be embarrassing aye ? )
How about that.... you can even 'like' your own post
That business about posts not having a 'post number' anymore makes a mess of threads like the 'tow coupling' thread and it's INDEX PAGE .... not sure how we can get around that, aye ? l Just did a hyperlink there ....see if it works
Cobber..

G'day f/f,
It could get a bit chockers up there if Reddo posts a funny that 2583 members 'like' ..... I notice that the 'Classic' forum don't have that 'thumbs up' symbol on their site... what do you and the Mods think.... is it a good feature, or not ?
Cobber.

Yeah, cobber, the "Thumbs up" symbol shows up on the Classic forum only when you've logged in.
I personally think there's a bit of overkill in the new version as far as notifying you if somebody Likes your post, or if somebody Quotes you. It means you have to go into your Profile section and open up the Notifications tab to clear the little pop-up flag away. You can already see above your post who Liked it, and you can easily see who quotes you on the forum. Why you would need to have further notifications telling you that, is beyond me.

Hi
Don Ricardo - OK - I have to admit I am blonde! Never noticed the 'floating' pages buttons.....
Franklin1 - Regarding the code when creating a post - if you go into profile settings, you can change it so it is always on preview instead of code, and you can select which notices you receive, so you can opt out of getting the 'likes' and 'quotes' notices.
But about the Thumbs Up button - have double checked, and I don't have it - I have it on the Classic Forum, and I am logged in now, but don't have it here??? Can't find a setting about it though?

I am totally disappointed to see Vintage vans has abandoned the previous way of doing things. This is for only one reason. I am slowly learning my way around a computer, the internet and facebook. I loved to come on to this site , press on the latest 80 items, read and enjoy. I could take it further and even say I would try to post photos. All has changed, all looks so confusing. The same thing happened on the sister site, Classic vans. I will not give up, I will endeavour to learn more. just wish the 80 system was still available.

G'day barkpaint, It is, but it will give you a lot more than the most recent 80 posts.
Down the bottom left of the Home page there is a section that looks like this:
Forum Information & Statistics Board Statistics Threads and Posts Total Threads: 7,753 Total Posts: 74,183 Last Updated: Vintage vans wanted by kiwijim (2 hours ago) Recent Threads - Recent Posts - RSS Feed - Mark All Boards Read
To see all the threads that have been updated, click on "Recent Threads". To see all the latest posts on the forum, click on "Recent Posts". In both cases you will be given the most recent 1000 threads updated or posts updated.
Stick with it, barkpaint. Haven't heard any reports of anybody dying because they've had to use the new version. Some features are better than the older version. Some are a pain.
cheers, Al.

redmr2red - I presume this will work for everyone - once you have logged in and navigated to the page you like to land on (for me it is recent threads), either bookmark the page or add to the favourites bar in the browser (in mine, you click on the yellow star on the LHS with the green arrow in it). Then you just click on your bookmark/favourite tag to enter the site, and you are already logged in. Makes is so easy.

Hi Cobber, You're right about not having the 'Reply #' to refer to. That was really convenient. But on the other hand it was also a bit of a pain when posts got deleted from the thread because Reply #58 would then become Reply #55, etc, so the reference then became not very helpful. Maybe what we need to do now is to make a reference to the person making the post and the date, eg 'post by Cobber on 13 May 2009'. Then the reference will continue to be valid even when posts are deleted. Of course if a person posts on the same subject several times on the one day...but who would do that? (Except thee and me! ) Does that mean you need to go through the Tow Coupling index and re-reference the posts, and I need to go through DHL and... Don Ricardo

I've just been looking at the options available when you click the gear wheel in the top right hand corner of any post. There is an option called "Link to Post" which might substitute for the Reply # system of reference. You can either have the linked post show as part of the original thread, or you can nominate for it to show independent of the thread. See my dummy links in the post I just created in the Tow Couplings thread
