Hi guys Agreed - there will be no rest for the wicked over Easter I bet - plenty of turps of all descriptions (bevvies and brushes!) over the four day break. I had more ambitious plans for what was going to get done before Cowra, but I've scaled it back. The most we are going to get done is the outside I think. No hinges, fitting the refurbished fridge, new drawers under the bed, or new handles I'm afraid. Next time! At least it gives me something to do when I get home. I think the idea of a localised swap meet on the Monday afternoon the week of the Nationals is a great one. I've got a few things I am happy to part with, and it just makes more room for me to add new things. Cheers Seeshell

OK so Dad tells me that he got me a new "straight through" axle to be fitted before the trip to Cowra!!! ;D ;D ;D I AM SO EXCITED!! It even takes my original 13" Holden rims so no one will be able to tell that I have impants! Give an old van a butt lift and the lady vans will be swooning over me. No one likes an old van dragin it's butt on the ground as it enters the caravan park - a real turn off. Better get off the forum now before Dad catches me. See ya there ladies and watch out for old new improved Curtis!

Hi All Very sad to say but we will not be making it to Cowra - let this be a cautionary tale to all people who want to "spruce" up their vans before heading away. We're still working but there's too much to finish in the time alloted - unless we took her all "rat rod". Under the aluminum panels front and back there was some damage. To ignore it and paint over the top would have been half-arsed and also made more work for later on. Also, there are also a few repairs from what looks like an old accident to the front left and rear right edges whose joins have let go a bit, and there is a bit of wood rot to fix. With that work alone, we wouldn't make it. SO if you're going to miss the finish by a minute, why not a mile? We've decided to keep the week and a bit off, and use it to work on the van - so we will be with you all in spirit. Finish the required repairs, redo the roof (calico?), and paint the outside is the goal for about 10 days. Very sad not to be meeting you all. We really have been hanging out for this trip for nearly a year (first with one van that packed up, and now another! Ye gods!). Take pity on us, and post lots of photos so we can have a "near-van" experience. I've passed on our site details to the mods to reallocate - and we'll look forward to all your posts. Cheers Seeshell

Hiya Seeshells... Thats terrible news... but i woulod imagine ... with such a large gathering of vans there will be a few more in the coming weeks that will be hit with " reality"and have to cancel out of the Nats. Never mind.. I am sure you have made the right decision ... Better to take your time and do the repairs / resto right the first time than to botch things up just to get to the nats with your van and then..... have to go home and pull things apart to do the repairs the right way,,,, Double the effort . Yup.. as has been the case in the past, there will be ample pics of the vans .. cars... and characters from the nats posted here onthe forum.. itll be almost like being there... Regards Reddo

G'day seeshell, We were looking forward to meeting you and your tribe in person at Cowra, you are probably doing the right thing by not doing a half baked job on The Blue Flyer but you will be missed, particularly at the memorabilia show and tell night on the Tuesday Good luck with the rest of the restoration. Cobber.

Cobber wrote.... "particularly at the memorabilia show and tell night on the Tuesday" Ummmm.... ..... is this a "Must attend "event.. ?? If so.. Will the local Police force be present.... The redman family have an aversion to showing and telling the constablary anything .. truth or otherwise.. ;D ;D ;D Sorry Cobber... its just an heredatory/ancestory trait thing that goes back to the first fleet of thieving .. caniving Reddtypes:-X Regards Reddo Read more: vintagecaravans.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=runevent1&action=display&thread=7817&page=9#ixzz1rUPoQOHQ

Hi Cobber and Reddo We thought that if we cancelled now, someone else who had planned far better than us would have the chance of a prime spot! I AM particularly bothered to think that I am going to miss out on a few of the Vintage Van Olympics events, including: Marconi Track and Field - Attaching the Awning The Uneven Bars - Awning Pole Semifinals The Parallel Bars - Awning Pole Finals Wrestling - Making a Caravan Bed As for the vintage show and tell, I know you were all looking forward to the Powerpoint on the History of Phenolic Plastics I prepared: xylonite, duperite, bakelite, bandalasta, bristolite, carvanite and eon, nallyware, gayware, iplex and catalin... *grin* Seeshell

Seeshells mentioned "gayware"... Lemme tell ya Seeshells ... over the years of vintage caravanning get togethers i have seen some blokes dress in clothing at dinner dances that would definitely qualify as "Gayware"....
If the walls could talk at Coledale surf life saving club and The pub at Mt Gambier they would paint a pretty gay picture... Reddo

Hey Reddo,
I have some Gaywear. Seeing as I am camped 1 space away from you I will bring it along for you to look at.
Seeshell, there is a Don for hire on Ebay at the moment, owned by forum member Austin 125. Also I am taking the Clipper which means the Teardrop is not being used if you are up to staying in that.
Leigh.

Hi Leigh Thank you for that wonderful offer (and the others we have had by PM) - it's true what people say about the generosity of people on this forum. We genuinely appreciate people offering their lovely vans. It's often hard for Aaron and I to get a bunch of time off together (it took us a year to arrange this lot!). All of these jobs require us to both be on hand (probably 6 man jobs!) so we are going to stay home and use the time to try and bring her weather tight before winter. Our next time off is not until October, and I don't want to leave her in this state until then. If we can seal her up and get it all water tight, then over the long cold months we can do some inside jobs - like fitting the fridge! However, if you see any evidence of "gayware", Leigh, make sure you post it on the forum! Again, many thanks, Seeshell

Just rang the Caravan Park and canceled our booking as we are not able to make it due to work commitments and our van not finished. Some slack person has been too busy shifting and setting up the new" Overlanda Caravans" factory in Ararat ,and this was a bigger job than anticipated. Now we have to put our heads down and backside up and get things moving again. We hope that everyone has a good time and that we see plenty of photos. If any one comes through Ararat and wants to drop in we will be more than happy to see them .We are 300 meters of the Western Highway and easy to find. The link to Overlanda Caravans Pty Ltd is www.overlandacaravans.com.au This has our contact numbers and address. Regards Gerald and Wendy

Thanks for the response fellas.... I've only just got enough room in Ol' 36 and the FJ to carry the necessities of life without carting "stuff" if nobody else is going to do it. I think "austin 125" might be bringing something to look at too....... and he's got more than you and me put together Leigh Cobber.
