Hi Smiles.. Dont wanna rain on your parade ... but... i feel it is only fair to warn you that Jimmys beach Caravan Park is famous for.... Midgies..... yup... sandflies. Take a tip from a local and ring Hawks nest beach caravan park and see if ya can get in there.. its only about a kilometre away .. but is set behind the sandhills facing the beach.. never had a prob with sandflies there.. As opposed to jimmys beach park which is tucked in the bush behind low sandhills facing south towards Port stephens... Dont ask me why.... but its the park of choice for itchn and bighting thingys. Cheers Reddo

Yo.. Just been sittin back here readin all the "Things ta do" ( Itenary) at Cowra... Certainly a sharp contrast to the first nats back in 2006 at Morgan The "Things to do list "read something like this.. Get up. Meet people drink beer Look at each other vans drink each others beer move on to next van meet more people drink thier beer Move on to next van 'Short pause for lunch grab a beer Go find someone else ya havent met Drink your beer .. then thiers.. Move on to the next van Have shower.. Go to pub Drink the pubs beer.. untill the publican went to bed and said we could help ourselves... ( ;D Woooo Hoooooooo.. Son Joel done his best to stop the bar rush but got trampled ) Enjoy a great nights entertainment put on by Will and Lyn ]Go home .. go to sleep. Get up.. meet more poeple drink your beer drink thier beer. Go for a group cruise to check out "The Highway Princess at Blanchetown Sit around the campfire Enjoy each others commaraderie and generally soak up the atmosphere. Get up the next morning .. Go on a 2 hour houseboat cruise next day Have a group hug Wish everyone a safe trip home ... Pack up... go home.. My how things have changed .. Here we are in 2012 and .. there is that muich being put on / laid at our feet by the hard working mods there wont be time to drink anyone elses beer... There wont be enough time to scratch yourself with all these planned activities.. or... perhaps there will be.. Like the mods have said all along.. ya can do as little as ya like and enjoy your holdiays just catching up with good mates or.. If you are like the kids of today and need a whole stack of stuff to stop ya from getting board then the itenary will have you run off your feet.. I am off to the computer shop tomorrow to buy a few new ink cartridges and a ream of A4 paper so i can print of my copy of the itenary... Its a real bugger having ta leave on wednesday morning .. i was so looking forward to the cruise on the Nile ;D ;D ;D Cant wait.. cant wait.. cant wait.. are we there yet... ? Regards Reddo

I have cleaned the inside of the van (not used for awhile), Have re-charged the battery Have filled the gas bottle Have packed items for the charity auction I wonder if Geoff & Maurie are going to officiate at the auction (a la Coledale) ;D ;D ;D Have printed out the maps and itinerary etc etc Have printed out the list of LPG stations Also started to pack. I'm getting excited. What a shame that I have to work for the next week, would love an early mark Regards Di

Hi All, Are any of the Propert owners taking their Propert to the Nationals? I had a bit of trouble with mine at Millmerran last weekend and would like to have a look at a few others before I start to take mine apart and start working on it. Thanks Di

Hello all, Just a short note to invite anyone who is going to Cowra for the Nationals to drop in at the newly opened Shepparton Motor Museum. I know its a bit off the beaten track for most, but its worth the visit. As a special offer to Vintage Caravanners, for anyone towing a vintage van who drops in between now and Sunday 13th May, entry will be half price. We are Caravan and RV friendly with plenty of room to manouvre. It's worth the visit just to have a closer look at the 1957 Rowvan on display. The following links are images of the Rowvan as well as the link to our site. i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s395/1913fafnir/1957FEHoldenandRowvan.jpgi1049.photobucket.com/albums/s395/1913fafnir/1957Rowvan.jpgwww.sheppartonmotormuseum.com.auLove to be there, but somebody has to run the show. Hi Cobber, Now wait a minute..."vans back to 1936 will be on show". I thought Earlee was going in his lantern roof van, which I think we have established was built in 1931... Hmmm! Sounds like they are doing a good job promoting it, should be great. Wishing I was there, Seeshell

Hi Seeshell,
I think the "dating" of Earlees van could have several question marks attached, at least in my opinion.
Its a great old van, regardless of its real age, & its appears to have definitely been built in the 30's & early 40's . As it was homebuilt, & no records have been found, its quite possible it could have been built in 1931, but unless Earlee found some positive ID, its all supposition.
Whatever its age, its good to see it again after all the effort, time & cost Earlee put into it.
JBJ

Hi Seeshell, I think the "dating" of Earlees van could have several question marks attached.............. JBJ funny about that dennis and seeshell. i distinctly remember earlee ratting through very old newspapers for sale at coledale markets a number of years ago. suprisingly enough, not long after he returned to qld after coledale he happened to find this "authentic" newaspaper hidden in the cavity of the lantern van. now, i'm not suggesting that someone as honest as earlee would "seed" the van with the newspaper, but it did seem an odd coincidence. as i recall, others, whose name shall remain secret, ( cobber), had the same opinion. geoff 'n jude

Now.....I reckon earlees van was pretty old when it was built, well.... it was brand new when it was built but it was built a long time ago, which means it is pretty old regardless of when it was actually built. It's had a few new bit built into it recently which means it's not as old as it was...well some bits of it aren't as old as it was when it was built, even if they were new bits when it was built they would have been old now if they hadn't been replaced with new bits. It's fair to say the oldest bit in earlees van is the newspaper he found behind one of the new bits he put in the caravan recently, so I think it's pretty old. Anyway..... I reckon it will be the star of the show and I can't wait to see it Cobber.

I find it totally incomprehenible that some people ... .. would ever doubt Earlee and question the authenticity of his 1931 lantern van with new old news papers in its cavity.... Why... i am over 50 years old and before the advent of sorbent ... i distinctly remember using newspaper on my cavity under the light given off by a lantern... so.....there ya have it... proof positive that newspaper can be used to DATE things... ;D Regards Reddo

well I'm looking forward to the nats, my van is not quite ready, but i just dont have the energy to finish polishing it all over again, only got half done this time. i had more energy a year ago. the van is up and running, and fully operating (but no water tank yet). I'm just coming with van as it is, and clean inside and out. I'll be there by myself, anyone else coming alone? or are all partnered?

Hi fireballv8, Don't worry about your van having to look perfect. On the whole, that's not what we are about. Some people will manage to have their vans looking fantastic, but others either won't have the time, skills, energy or inclination to work on their vans prior to the nationals. But it's the joining in that counts. Basically we are a very friendly bunch and have made some great friendships over the years. We just like to get out and about and enjoy ourselves. I will also be there by myself and expect that there will be a few others in the same boat. Regards Diane
