Howdy I have booked in Sun 29 Apr - Sat 5th May. After Mt Gambier & Mildura both being a leisurely 3-4 hr drive each way, this will be a shock to the system.....having a 2 day drive just to get there!!

Hi all We booked in today, from Sat 28/4 until Frid 4/5.
Cowra sounds like a great choice. Only about 420 sleeps to go, but hey, who's counting?

Hi all.. Yeah Liegh that loop you refered to out to forbes and back was gunna be part of the 2009 east coast tour..Start at Wagga Beach van Park .. head up the Olympic Hwy. Cowra van park was gunna be the overnight stop as well. Never eventuated due to my change of vocation and hence lack of leave days... Count me on a day out driving / dining around that way. Mate lives in a small town north of Cowra called "Woodstock"... it has a pub.... sssssssssaaaayyyyyyy no more... Have been through Cowra a million times and have always been going to stop and have a look at that museum on the nor east side of town headin towards Blayney. will definitely stick my head in there this time. Looks to have all; sortsa good junk. Can anyone throw up a site layout of the van park here on the forum?? I had a look at the website link and it doesnt show site locations like most other links to van parks??? Dunno what site i am on .. just asked to be near the camp kitchen and crappers....will know more when i get my reciept for deposit. Only one other question....... ... is Cobber some kind of Psychic...... How did he manage to book in advance of the official announcement.....and score a patch amongst the moderator/diplomats Surely he wasnt Wiley enough to guess which park the moderators where going to pick...... ;D Or ......did he google the info from wickyleaks Reddo

hi Reddo,
I was talking to the park manager about a site map the other day. He mentioned the park was doing some updating in areas, & the site map numbers were wrong at present, so no map is available I guess from that.
I dont know about "Moderators Corner" as I asked for "what Reddo's having". I guess now with a longer van I have to take wherever they can fit me??
As long as the stagger to the amenities is OK, & I,ve got power, doesnt worry me much where they put us.
As regards things to do, I would be amazed if anyone cant find enough to do in & around a big country town to keep them happy for a week.
Most of us at Mt Gambier & Morgan, the 2 previous Nationals I've been to, run out of time before we saw & did what we wanted to.
Its called enjoying yourself & enjoying Life.
Its all fun.

Hi JBJ, I realise there must be lots to do, I just thought I would throw in something to think about. I was at Mildura but work committments decreed I could only be there from Saturday until Tuesday. Unfortunately all of the fun stuff started on Wednesday so I missed out on meeting the local car club members, paddle steamer trip, etc. Had I known what was happening at Mildura I would have taken the Thursday and Friday off work and been there later in the week rather than the Monday and Tuesday and got there early. If we were to get an idea of what was happening when we might be able to organise ourselves to suit. I find it much more fun going to places with a group rather than by myself. I just hoped that by getting together and nutting out at least one or two days activities beforehand would be beneficial, especially if it might involve getting a lunch or group discount organised. Sorry, must be my 36 years of Car Club National Rallies coming through. I will go to the naughty corner with all the others now. Leigh.

Hi Leigh,
I wasn't criticising organized functions in any way. I prefer to travel in a group myself most of the time.
Hopefully by the time of the Nationals, a lot will be organised for us to do.
I guess its impossible for me to phrase a comment in a way that everyone understands what I meant to say.

Hi Leigh.. I have read through JBJs comment a couple of times... Nothing untoward there mate. I concur with what he has said . Unfortunately things can get enterpreted in different ways by different people at different times.... Its all good mate. Yup.... it would be good to have a stacka things to do while we are at Cowra. Anything from an organised trip somewhere each day to simply kicking back in the park and catching up with good friends we havent seen for a few years.. or even longer. Its all good... Those that attended Morgan in 2006 for the first vint van nationals will tell ya that there was nothing planned when we arrived there...... just east meets west for the first time....which has forged a heckovalot of lasting friendships with the guys and girls from the foundation state of vintage caravanning .......by the end of the week we had taken a 3 hour trip up the river in a blokes houseboat vintage van spotting a ordering the captain to steer a wandering course closer to the bank to inspect the vans along the way.. ... been thoroughly entertained at the pub by Will and Lyn with there mobile kareoke gear... ( an night we will never forget)... The publican went to bed and left us to run the bar.... Now THAT is an organised event i would like to see happen at Cowra ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Had a trip to Blanchetown with about a dozen towcars to see "The Highway Princess "Vintage 5th wheeler and fargo . Days spent just poking around the back blocks looking for vintage... anything.. a nice cuppa and a pie at the local bakery in the mid morning sun.... And of an evening a roaring campfire and a few beers with great mates...... sometimes the simple things in life are the best.. All this in a town with a population of no more than about 500 people In the end people will either choose to participate or retire to a quiet corner and just watch the ducks float down the river under the shade of a big redgum.... gotta remember the week off work has been hard earned and simply "Vegeying"can be the order of the day. again... its all good... I never went to Mildura , but from what i have read on peoples posts we must have learned from MT Gambier that it pays to have an itenary nailed up somewhere in the park to let everyone know whats on offer each day during the week.. sticking them up at the toilet entrances or at the camp kitchen is probably the easiest way of communicating. Some people dont interact all that well with crowds..... but they will at least know whats doin when.... and decide if thay are" Ïn 'or öut"of the days activitys".... These get togethers are renowned for there "spontenaiety " and to be fair to the mods who have done a great job of planning so far i suggest we just let them continue to do just that... thanks guys. Meanwhile .. I suspect that Cowra and surrounds is getting googled to death at the moment by vintage vanners... each plotting thier own course from and back to their state as well as looking at the endless attractions that are withing an easy drive of the van park at Cowra... again... its all good... Cheers guys Reddo
