Hi all..... I am still reeling from the whole Cowra nats thing... the number of vans.. The quality of restorations....the distance travelled by many...the commaraderie .....the characters.... the tow cars....the scenery in and around cowra.... the tourist attractions ( my pick was the museum next to the van park 3 k out on sydney road ).... the whole bloody show was just incredible.... I spent Anzac day packing the car and van.... woke up thurs morning and the missus said she was off to work... so .. i said i was off to "Play". Headed north east up to Muswellbrook ( totally the wrong direction to cowra) .. across through Merriwa ... where i found "David of Dalkieth "up a pole.... I went to the door of the servo and complained that i couldnt get a tank of Super for 2 shillings a gallon... ;D Plan was to stay at Dunedoo..... but a quick call to 1954Homemade .. revealed that the QLD contingent was at Dubbo..... .. just 80 k further west. So motored on and stayed the night there. Struggled a bit with some of the bigger hills ... but the "towcar"got me into Cowra just minutes after the big block ford and chevs... No wuckers... The "twins"had been whinging to me.... "Äre we there yet dad"... they where over the moon when they finally got out of the van to play... .. They took some convincing that this bloke was the real superman.... ... Managed to score a Norton out of a blokes backyard right in the middle of town.... I am in negotiations with the same bloke ... trying to a swindle this real neat pommy towcar for "Öld Blue"... He told me it was a "Centura".... but i am sure it is a Centurian.... coupla years early model than the val variant.... Found this "Toyotworth "or is it a "Kenwota"... at Maccas... Ok... Ok... nuff stuffin about here is a few random shots from around the park... A few "Thank Yous"..... The highlights for me... The sutcacs...For 2 beautiful big barra fillets they kept chilled and brought all the way down from QLD for me... I cooked em for lunch on monday and just at in the sun savouring... salivaring the moment... .also there was.. that giant pot of Pea and Ham soup that Barb knocked up and shared with about a dozen of us . The good times aye guys. More thanks... The mods for their untiring efforts in organising the activities to keep everyone hopping for the week. A thankless job .....but a bloody great job... give yaselves a big pat on the back guys. Its over now... and you can relax ... well.. sorta relax. Conti ... Lee ...and their helpers for making the auction a huge success over 2 arvos..... over 2 grand for charity...How bloody good is that .. perhaps that should be a big thank you to everyone who bid to win ... i ended up with 2 lanterns for $25 just because i raised my arm to throw lollies to the crowd... aaarrr well... i will put em to good use. I am proud just to have contributed to... been part of the whole auction. Lasdt but not least..... every single one of you for coming along and making the week a huge success. Someone commented early on here.. Not one A###hole.... yup.. dead set correct. Left Cowra wednesday morning and drove home .around 7 or 8 hours .. 20 mins from home came sailing over a hill to find the traffic banking up at a roundabout... locked up 2 or 3 times with the van jackknifing each time.. pulled up 3 or 4 metres short of a major smash... Had a look at the brakes thursday.....front discs doing all the work....rears are doing nothing. Friday...another 250K on the road. Went to a Motorbike rally at Nundle up near Tamworth. . Had a great ride saturday... came back to the camp at Nundle and found a Goldy bronze coloured ZD Fairlane ???with this really weird lookin expanda box thingy van just across the road from my site.... Lovely old couple on thier way home from some oddball van week at Cowra.. They are entering thier 18 year old Jack Russell "Tally"in the geriatric class at the Nundle dog races today.... I called at the TAB and stuck $100 on her for a win.... ;D Go you good thing !!! Twas great catchin up with the Sutcacs again.. even if it has only been about 4 days since we parted company at Cowra. Thanks goes to everyone who has posted photos so far on this thread.. it makes a wanderfull photo album that can be visited by people for years to come. and.. serves as a motivational device to get those that are working on thier vans to keep aiming to get thier vans finished for the 2014 Nats . Had a ball. Regards Reddo

As everybody has said............. the Vintagecaravans.com 2012 Nationals was a great event and thanks go to everybody involved with the organisation of such a big do. The underpaid Moderating team for selecting the town of Cowra and organising all the tours etc..... Craig the caravan park manager, I don't know how he managed to fit all the caravans and their tow cars in and still have room for us to erect our awnings...... the town of Cowra and its information centre staff for giving us a great welcome......... and all those who participated by bringing an inspiring collection of well presented Vintage Caravans and tow cars. This years nationals turned out a bit different for us and as some terrific photos of the vans in the park have already been posted I'll not duplicate them. On Friday the 27th Mark T and noblesgarage collected Janaway II from my place and after a slight delay we set off for Cowra. A stop over at the “National Motor Racing Museum” at Bathurst. Then on to Cowra in time to get to our site in day light, I had to set a fast pace for us to achieve that (sorry Mark Saturday suss out the shops at Cowra and meet Belinda at the tourist information centre. Big day Sunday.... started out with the “Bush Fire Brigade” setting up a breakfast BBQ right at the front entrance to the caravan park... now there's some blokes who know how to organise a BBQ. At the same time we were lining up our tow cars for the display in the blocked off street alongside the caravan park and leading into the adjacent park where some of the car clubs from around the region were displaying their cars. As well as the wine tasting, market stalls and free entertainment there were helicopter rides available..... a good opportunity to see Cowra from above and get some photos of the caravan park This shot shows the caravan park, centre, with our tow cars lined up in the street leading to the park where the markets etc. were (photo taken 1:30 so things were slowing down by then) While most of us were busy on Sunday an old couple from one of the local properties were walking around the caravan park telling quite a few people they had a 1930s caravan for sale..... Mark T heard about it and so......... he invited me to go with him and his “ professional vintage caravan rescue and recovery team extraordinaire” to have a look on Monday. A 1930s “Windmill Car Trailer Co.” van in good nick. We made an offer..... they said they would think about it . So back to the caravan park to watch the “Auctioneer extraordinaire” in action at the charity fund-raiser auction. Rang the farmers on Tuesday morning....... they were still thinking , so we did the run to Canowindra to visit the “Charles Car Collection” of old Holdens (mostly) although I liked the Armstrong Siddeley he had there. Lunch at the “Junction Hotel” The farmers rang us on Tuesday nigh while we were driving out to the "Darby Falls Observatory" and they said........................................ OK, come and get it ;D Booked to do the bus tour on Wednesday but............ Mark had his recovery truck handy so the “ professional vintage caravan rescue and recovery team extraordinaire” plus a mate of mine and myself went to save this little old “Windmill caravan”. Big thank you to Mark, Ian, Brian and Jay for all your help fellas ..... and a big thank you to all those at the caravan park who helped get the “Windmill” off the truck and then onto the trailer our daughter arrived with on Friday . Back to earth on Thursday... so we did the run to Iandra Castle, now that's a restoration project that is worth looking at. Friday.... on the way home no problems so.... no worries And I did see nine windmills just outside of Goulburn. Happy days. I overheard my Dad telling the guy who lives in the flat downsatirs...he went through Cowra a couple of days ago while he was away in a rented motorhome... was planning on staying the night there but there wasn't any room in the caravan park... there were all these vintage vans and cars taking up all the sites.... G'day Penny61, Pity your dad didn't drop by for a chat - we would have done our best to convert him! ;D ;D ;D He wasn't the only one turned away, though. The manager of the park told us that he had turned away between 20 and 30 people each day we were there! Fortunately there was another park a little out of town, so hopefully at least some of them - maybe even your dad - found a spot there. The other park served as an overflow for the Nationals, so there were about eight vans from our group up there as well, One of the magic things about the Nationals was that the whole Cowra Van Park was taken up with vintage vans and one or two classic vans. It made for a great scene. The only exception was a modern owned by a poor bloke who had broken his leg before the Nationals and couldn't move his van before hand. Am VERY disappointed that no-one took a pic of Fugly's artwork this year/ C'mon sutcac, show and tell!!! Hi Roehm, I'm sure someone got a pic, but you might have to wait until everyone gets back from the Nationals and has the chance to post their photos. Enough to say that it was another classic Sutcac (and Barb) statement, that I'm sure gave people quite a chuckle when they drove up behind Fugly on the road! Don Ricardo

Hahahaha.... Actually when I asked him my Dad said he "had to go" to a rest area outside town somewhere... I'm still laughing. ;D ;D ;D The whole family have been caravaners from way back. Penny makes 4 over the years. He was in the rented motorhome on a caravaning related business trip... I would have said he no longer owns a van because a) his little Mazda can't tow one and b) we have no room for one... but that was before I bought Penny Propert.... These days I would have to say he prefers to rent motorhomes or cars and stay in motels (!) because he travels long distances and likes 'mod cons' like microwaves, big beds, air con and heating... he's trying to get me to get Penny wired for power but I'm not sure I want to spend all that money on something I don't think I'll need... and he has this idea that modern things are more "reliable" than old ones.... He normally mentions my Bug in the same sentence.... I thimk he was surprised to see another Propert that wasn't in a museum like the one I showed him in the Motor Museum at Birdwood...! Vanessa.

It was pretty cold at night, but OH CRAP might be in some trouble this time!! CURTIS !! What have you been up to young man? you might find yourself with some explaining to do.

I just wanted to say thanks so much to all Robbie's 'Aunties and Uncles' that took such great care of him at the Cowra Nationals He came home looking happy and healthy and with some amazing recollections of riding in your cars, eating your food, receiving guitar lessons and much more ;D I'm sorry that I missed such a fun time away with you wonderful people but I hope to catch up with you soon. Lots of love, Kate (MRSFJ55 and Robbie's Mum) xo

;D Hiya Kate..... I dunno how young Robbie would have survived if his Üncles and auntys "hadnt taken him under thier wings. I wandered past the Teardrop on many occassions only to find the doors left wide open.. clothes strewn around everywhere... Congealed baked beans in the bottom of the frypan... empty stubbies piled waist deep ....and other things lying around the annexe too repugant to describe. The young bloke was lucky not to be handed in to the salvos..... If i was you i wouldnt let Maurie and Robbie go anywhere on any vint van weekend without you in the future.... ;D Just kiddin Maurie. .. and it was great to see the father and son FJ55ers having a great time.... Hope all is well with the Trimatic in the convertible. Also glad to see you havent found the "caps lock"button Kate. You obviously arent as talented on the keyboard as Maurie ... CHEERS REDDO

Golly...... Those SunLiners are soooooo sexy - makes an old van pop out a few brass slot head screws!! I just love the smooth curves! Might keep a copy of the photos for later. How good is it that the humans can raise over 2 1/2 grand for cancer charity - well done!! Love Curtis.

Hi Franivy What a lovely buttercup colour your van is - and I love the striped awning as well. Quite a nice set up! Also thank you for sharing the shots of the other Sunliners. While they're all a little different, they certainly share a feeling of fun, don't they? Very appealing! But...now I DO want an egg salad sandwich. Cheers Seeshell

Thanks for the nice words, seeshell. We matched the original colour on the spats, which were stored inside and hadn't weathered like the exterior. Eggs are good for you, it has even been decided now that they are not a cholesterol no-no! franivy
