Hi Daggsey & crew,
I'm about 30 years over HK-T-G Holdens. I cant find the photo of my last HT wagon with its custom paint & 12"wide rear wheels', mattress in rear, curtains, 8 track system, & all the fun stuff. Another bunch of memories I'd forgotten.
Keep up the pix. They are great, & Boots is giving me heaps for sitting on my arse & not caravanning, as a result of them.
Its a beatiful part of the world up there.
JBJ

Hiya Daggsey.. Are those mags on the " Bent horned farm animals" trailer .....Charger rims They are certainly travelling first class up there in FNQ I had a month or so in Townsville... A few mates where renting a house up there... I arrived late at night... Threw my swag on the floor and Complained about the noise during the night ...... When i got up the next morning i realised why the boys had the cheapest rental property in Townsville. Frontage onto the highway..... Railway running along the back fence.... and....... in the direct landing path of the airport. Whopping great jets coming over the house about 100 metres up... B doubles running through the loungeroom... and... frieght trains till 3.00 am within arms reach or the kitchen door......Thank christ for Bundy Rum and earplugs Talk about the Bermuda Triangle AAaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr Townsville....... parasite.... ummmm.. Sorry....... Paradise. Keep it coming guys.... Love those country shows... ;D Reddo

Fantastic story/pics Daggsey. It must be the greatest feeling on earth when you wake up of a morning & have nothing to do but decide 'where to go today'.Good on you. Pity i didn`t know you`d be heading Innisfail way.Best mate lives right on the Goondi Bend,op the playing field. Did you happen to call in & get a cuppa from poli Bob Katter !! or get in some fishing on the Johnstone? Certainly getting some miles out of the effacy. cheers gordon

Wunth of July, 2009Glad you're enjoying the pics DC3TD...................... Headed west on the Palmerston Highway and with a great sense of relief, left the madness of the Bruce Highway........north of Nambour, this has gotta be the most dangerous "highway" in Australia..........good road surface but few overtaking lanes and cowboys in trucks and 4wds and tailgaters in Hyundai Excels ........... The Atherton Tableland beckoned and at a more liesurely pace, we wound our way up the mountain................. Malanda Falls on the Johnstone River, Malanda............ A change of scenery from sugarcane ........tea plantations.............. Just out of Atherton, the "Curtain Fig"......................... Through Atherton and on to Mareeba................a disappointing town (for us)...........sort of dry western town, but not quite tropical......................just our impression and no reflection on the residents who are probably extremely friendly people.................. spotted this ripper in the carpark in the centre of town............... Continued on to Mt Molloy............... Are we there yet dad??? ......getting close now, son...... On to Mt Carbine (named after the winner of the 1891 Melbourne Cup)...........a former mining town.........not much left of the town, (pub, roadhouse and a few houses and a great caravan park which permits campfires............caught up with friends from WA (last seen near Port Macquarie).................. Stayed for a few days at Mt Carbine, before moving on to Cooktown.................... Daggsey

Hey Daggsey You guys are bringing back some great memorys of a trip i done up through Cooktown in 1981. The pub at Archer river has a "half baked" collection of old items and artifacts from the gold mining days. I spotted an oversized camp oven sitting in the corner. When i removed the lid it contained a skeleton of a chinese man who died on the goldfields, I think it was mount Carbine Pub that has a bloody big croc mounted above the bar. There is also one in the bar of a pub at Ayr .... or was that Innisfail.... too many years ago now!! Dunno wether ya stopped at Black mountain or not. I climbed up on the boulders. You can bounce small round rocks on the bigger ones and the rebound like tennis balls. .... dont ask me why... they just do. The place was crawling with small snakes when i was there . Lakelands is.. or was one of the biggest cattlestations in QLD back then. Cooktown is a great place. Make sure ya get up to the old lighthouse on a sunny day and have a look out to sea..... coral reefs which brought old Capt Cook undone in the endeavour....... Keep the pixs coming guys. ... stay safe .. and happy trails. Reddo

G'day all, This last week has been spent in Cooktown...................what a fantastic unspoiled little town ...........no KFC, no McDonalds, no Pizza Hut, no Hardly Normal or any of the other American-styled franchises that are a blot on the landscape of most towns................... No traffic lights, no marinas, no highrise buildings, no Coles or Woolies (there is an IGA with reasonable prices), no Bunnings ....hang on,....no Bunnings!!!!......oh well, can't have it totally perfect in paradise.......... Since the road to Cooktown has been bitumised, it has become popular for southern tourists (no back-packers or Wicked vans)........it is certainly laid back here......... Some Cooktown highlights.......................... Jetty & Endeavour River scenes............. Old bank building.............. other buildings............. feeding the gropers from the jetty................ Captain James Cook info................... A must see......a sunset over the Endeavour River from Grassy Hill............... Finch & Quarantine Bay..................... Cooktown Botanical Gardens..................... Cooktown Cemetery............................ son of William Hovell, whose grave is in Goulburn.................... We're heading back to Mt Carbine today.........have a few days work there and no internet connection...............will check out the hotel Reddo to see if there is still a crocodile there.............. See ya's all in a few days Daggsey

Some more great photos there Daggsey and Carrots. Some of them deserve to be turned into postcards or posters... Thanks for the continuing travelogue. Reminds me of the slide nights we used to have when Auntie Gert and Uncle Bert (not their real names ;D ;D ;D) used to come and show us the pics of their latest adventure...except that your photos come in envy-generating regular instalments, which are much more enjoyable! Keep 'em coming! Don Ricardo

Hey Daggsey & Carrots, Just got back from a weekend at Coledale. (Perfect one day, sh***ouse the next). Does this photo bring back memories of many moments of deep discussions of the highest order ;D ;D ;D. Does it also help prove Darwins' Theory of Evolution has some merit . The levels of intellectual discussion seem to have diminished since you left, norm is left to talk to himself. Tam & Kim send their regards Jude & Geoff

Hiya Daggsey I see from your avatar that you are now residing in Cairns. Did the local forum members meet you on the outskirts of the city and escort you to your latest place of temporary residence. I see somewhere else here on the forum that there was a local swap meet and car show today. Atog was there and has posted some nice pics of a few vans and cars as well. Would be a shame to be in the neighbourhood up there and not manage to hook up with the likes of Atog, Bigkel, Kiwi, Scootman and a few others... Dare i say.. A once in a longtime opportunity... Unless you 2 plan on going around OZ again for a lap of honour. ;D Stay safe... . Oh yeah... ya can send us down a few jars of that FNQ sunshine .. Minus 2 last night at Cessnock swapmeet. Reddo
