Hi All. I have just cancelled out of the 2014 Vintage Van Nationals and that has left me with a weeks annual leave ( if I still have a job ) to wander about the wide brown land of ours... So... I am putting a bit of an itenary together for a one week tour of the Snowy Mountains next Autumn 2014. Basically similar to the recent Toads and Roaches Tour around Northern and western NSW. Now I know this might sound odd and get people wandering why... but...the tour will be on the same time as the Nationals...    Starts Anzac Day and runs through to the following Thursday. Then I head back home ... load up the bike and head to Nundle for the Norton Clubs Rally the first weekend in May This is why I have mentioned my holiday plans now... not after people have booked in at the Broken Hill Caravan Park .. and committed to attending the Nationals There is no ill intent here, nor am I trying to drag people away from the Nats . . Just mentioning that there is an opportunity for those that aren't going to the nats to tag along and enjoy the pleasures of vintage caravanning... maybe closer to home ... in a different environment... and a less grander scale than the Nationals . I honestly don't expect to get too many.....if any.... takers for the Alps tour....and I will be happy to just wander off down that way and have a quiet week zig zagging around the sites... van parks and a bit of free camping, enjoying a week away from the weekly grind at work. So... there ya have it.... I will do a bit of map scrounging and googling and get back to you on the route and overnight stays later on. Regards Reddo |

Good idea Reddo, I may yet struggle to get the 2 weeks off that I will need to attend BHill.  In a new job at work and very busy, also wife and I planning OS trip later in the year so $$$$$ a factor as well. I will be most upset if I can't go  but good to know I may have a shorter alternative tour  jenno |

Hi Moderator team. Just like to thank you for restoring this post. I noticed elsewhere on the forum a few people had vented their "concerns" re the removal of the thread. Not too sure why it was put under scrutiny.. I guess someone or a few of you guys had some concern otherwise you would not have taken the action you did. As I stated at the beginning I had / have no intention of causing any issues with the attendance of those choosing to go to the Nats by suggesting an alternative. Just a case of the paupers amongst us opting for a cheap alternative while still savouiring the joys of vintage vanning... Cheers fa now. and thanks again moderators.  Reddo |

I've only just logged on and so have no doubt missed out on all the ins and outs of things.
I'm not trying to prolong the agony. And I understand that the mods have returned this thread back onto the forum - thank you.
But can someone (the mods preferably) explain why on earth it would have been taken down off the forum in the first place.
There are numerous occassions (especially up in QLD) where we have more than one event on at the same time (take this weekend just gone as an example) and everyone just chooses which one they can go to depending on their circumstances, availability, distance to be travelled etc etc.
Is it just because this event will clash with The Nationals???!!!

by "taking down" Reddos thread instead of discussing it by yourselves ~ the mods made a "mountain out of a mole hill".
All those VVer's who are still on the long wait list for the Nats were offered an alternative until you yanked it away from them - no wonder the reaction you received.
I DO appreciate the job our mods do to keep this Forum "clean and tidy" however in this case I just wonder what all the fuss was about?

Hi All I appreciate the concern over this thread being removed and .. after some deliberation .. replaced. The mods have kindly reinstated the posts and ... I had a discussion today on the phone with the bloke regarded as holding the highest authority on this forum. I answered a few queries raised by him and all previous issues and concerns have been ironed out. I have agreed to comply with a few simple requests and the trip around the alps will still go on at the same time as the Nats. Can we please refrain from "opening up old wounds " and move on with the planning of the trip. Your understanding in this matter will be greatly appreciated by me and the other bloke..  Now... on with the show.. Day 1.Friday . Anzac Day 2014 . Travel from (your) home to Cooma - Snowy Mts tourist park Day 2 .. Saturday... Vans "unplugged" a day off driving.. a chance to scout around Cooma/Jinabyne/ thredbo/perisher etc.....stock up on tucker for the next few days . Day 3.. Sunday.... Cooma to Jingellic .. via Cabramurra / Tumbarumba/ Elliots way / Tooma rd/ Linden Roth Drive 217km - 3.5 Hrs Free Camp on banks of Murray River down below the Bridge Hotel Jingellic. Day 4...Monday . Jingellic to Porepunkah bridge caravan park .. via Tallangatta/ Yackandandah / Myrtleford 217km - 2.75 Hrs Day 5 ...Tuesday Bright to Corryong via Omeo (lunch) 248K - 4.5hrs Colac Colac Caravan Park - 1994 Murray Valley Hwy Day 6 .. Wednesday Corryong.. back through Khancoban /Thredbo /Jindabyne and on to Gundagai or Yass..for the night Day 7 ...Thursday.. head home. Load bike .. pack fresh undies and helmet Days 8/9/10 Nundle bike rally.. Lifes Good Would be nice to get a bit of feedback on any good.. or bad experiences at the spots I have roughed in for o/night stays. If ya know of better spots in or near the towns I have picked then please let us know.. or... maybe it would be better to do the trip anti clockwise instead of clockwise... so the loop finishes off closer to the Hume Hwy?? anyway... that'll do for now.. I am sure the details will get "polished" well before the trip. Remember... no more gripes or this entire thread could end up back in the admin teams corner for further consideration.. be good... Bright is lovely, but curious to know which route to Omeo. via Dinner Plain & Hotham, or the other way? via Hotham and Ovens Valley etc is a bit CRIKEY with van in tow. the pass down through Harrietville puts hairs on chests. also, Cabramurra (a very special little company town and well worth a visit) is the end of the line til Oct long weekend. Cabra to Khanc road closed. means a special trip in to Cabra via Kiandra. long drive, tight bends down into town, and nothing there in the way of services - just a small general store. still worth visiting, as it's the last of the Snowy Hydro towns and is in a lovely high spot with amazing views. Jindy always worth an overnight just for the hoardes of young outdoorsy types doing the apres piste thing. plenty of good eats, too. more random thoughts tmoro.

Guys.. Given the comment made in their reply from Bright caravan park about the autumn festival and the park filling up fast, I am sorta wandering if I should book 1/2 doz sites at each park to ensure we get powered sites on the tour... Of course this means me sticking my neck out and assuming there will be as many as 6 going on this trip?? So... would it be possible for anyone that is even half considering going on the trip to pm me so I can speak with the van parks and give them a " definite maybe " on numbers. We can sort out deposits or cancellations later.. but at least we will have a toe hold ( reservation) on the site All the parks are "googalable" so take a look and get back to me. Regards Reddo |

I'd love to come along, the alps being my favourite destination, but alas it conflicts with school term. and just a bit too far with van in tow to do a weekend, sadly.

Correspondence from Jingellic pub.... "Good afternoon, Yes you can camp for free and yes there are showers and toilets. You obtain a coin from bar @ $4 for a hot shower and bring your own toilet paper!!! We try to keep clean and with paper but people steel it Joanne " All good there then... looks like they lure ya too the pub to collect your shower token I can see that becoming a whole afternoon mission ... the pub... not the shower ;D ;D ;D ;D Reddo |

Hi All Having a bit of trouble getting accomo at Bright. We can get in at Bright Holiday Park and it is dog friendly... However.... The manager states that from Anzac Day on is "Fall fest" ( something I am good at.. should be fun!!!).. and with that comes inflated rates.. even with a group concession of 10% for occupying 6 sites it will cost us $47... per night... That's a lot of cabbage just to go see leaves droppin orf a tree... However... that's about the only option we have short of staying back at Myrtleford.... anyone got a suggestion / option they would like to mention...?? The bookings are starting to fill up the parks already so I/ we need to act shortly. She said we don't have to book straight away but would like payment in full for the night by no later than xmas if we book the sites now?? Other issue... Juindabyne park looks better than those in Cooma. Cheers Reddo |

Hiya Reddo , the Bright costs can get a bit excessive, gets a bit busy there too. Cost wouldn't bother us greatly and it is a nice park,close to everything , but not everyone may wish to cough up that much.....Have you checked the surrounding areas like Porepunkah and Wandiligong?

H i ,, Nug Nug reserve 15klm south of Myrtlford ( route C526 ) is very good , from memory it was about $10 a nite , cold showers but good flushing toilets , some powered sites , great setting with creek , 0418336272 ( number is 3 years old , ) dogs OK ,

Hi Just a message to let those that have some level expressed interest in coming on the 2014 Autumn in the Alps Tour know that I have sent them a pm re - booking in to Snowy Mountains Tourist Park.. paying a deposit to secure a site.. ( 8 sites reserved)... others can come along too , but I cant garauntee powered sites as it gets closer to the tour date Have also been giving some thought as to "Where to " after Colac Colac van park in Corryong... I might ditch the idea of shooting home on Thursday and instead of driving back up the hume ...swing the tour back through Cooma.. down Browns Mountain .. or over to Bombala and spend a few days through to Sunday hopping up the coast... Narooma, or Bermagui,or Moruya ( or Nelligen ) .. Kendalls Beach @kiama.. then home to all points North Sunday.. we should have "defrosted" by the time we hit the ocean roads. un ...un .. so to speak. Reddo |

Some of the van parks can be a bit "Pushy" re making bookings so to comply with their request for a deposit I urge you to give the tour some serious consideration and phone The Snowy Mountains Caravan Park .. Hi to those that have already committed to coming on the 2014 Alps Tour... and those still twiddling their thumbs.... I have been wrestling with the planning of where to head when we leave Colac Colac Van park at Corryong on Day 6 ( Wednesday 30th April).. Originally I had planned on doing the bolt up the Hume to Gundagai or Yass for Wednesday night ... then heading home on Thursday in readiness for the bike rally ... Then I got to thinking... I am away on a vint van holiday.. whats the rush to get home?.. Can go on a bike run just about anytime I like.. So... Here we are driving out of Corryong.... I will put up here what I have sorted out and see what those attending the tour think...sorta covering the same ground as one of the other tours and staying at van parks we know are excellent parks..tried and true. Wednesday... Corryong .. back through to Cooma... down Browns mountain to Bega and then on over to the coast into Tathra van park for the night. 328K about 4.5 hours driving Thursday.....Tathra to Moruya Riverbreeze Van Park... 119K roughly 2 hours driving Friday....Moruya to Kendalls Beach van park 187K - about 2.5 hours driving Have Friday and Saturday there and then head off home on sunday.. Total 9 days on the road for the tour.....plus whatever it takes to get your weary butts back to your home address Or Simply doddle off home from Corryong after 6 days . Waddyathink??
