G'day Dave,
What a fantastic job you have done with your helpers. The Don looks brand new, and everything that made me wince when I saw your first pics of her has been fixed!! I think you should share a Lazarus award with Doug and Vicky for bringing your vans back from the dead! There are some other contenders on the forum, but you are definitely up there with them...
I'm really looking forward to seeing more progress shots as you go.
Regards and congratulations on your work.
Don Ricardo

Hi Dave Looking the goods there mate. I wish i could be at the Feb 08 QLD getogether to see the van in person. Just a word of warning that was past on to me by my bro who is a signwriter/painter with 45 years experience in the painting game.. Because the paint has to be thinned down with turps, water or thinners ( depending on what type of paint you are using) to put through the spray gun. you will need to give the van plenty of coats of undercoat to ensure that the undercoat has soaked well into the open grain of the bare timber. If you dont biuld it up with a good thick coat you will end up with "Dry /flat"spots in your top coat where the undercoat has been "Swallowed" It is for this reason that i paint my old ply vans with a roller and then "Lay off" the roller marks with a wide brush. Moral of the story ... more coats you can build up and sand smooth between each coat, the better the finish you will get.. Sure .. use a spray gun for the top coat if you wish. The final finsh will always depend on the prep work done beforehand. Bottom line... You ,Earlee and anyone else involved in this project should take a bow.. she looks great. Reddo

Hi David Absolutely staggeringly impressed with the work that has been completed and the results Just goes to show what having good friends in the know and some professional help can achieve. Getting a case of van envy coming on me thinks Am just waiting for the weather to improve so I can also tackle the outside painting. Let me know any tips/advice you can offer along the way please if you don't mind. Let's face it I need all the help I can get Cornish Lass

Cornishlass, From the pics that you put up a while back of your restoration way over in Pomgolia you certainly seem to to doing a great job.Your way ahead of me...... I haven't even started my resto yet Back to Dosse's Don, seems to be coming along well there.Love Don caravans, they have that English look about them. Vintage Pommy vans are so luxurious looking. Love seeing progress...... something I'm not seeing in my shed at the moment Terry.

G’day Dave, Great photos showing what you started with and how you have progressed to where you are now, really is inspirational stuff..... it’s the sort of result I hope to get when I start work on my “Don”........., which I hope will not be in the same sad state yours was when you first showed it to us. All I need now is to find that “Don” Cobber

As alass yes the Don fever has struck in the noblesgarage too, with the purchase of a 14 footer 1953 Don to go behind the 52 Chev. Its not any were nere as much a resto as yours as this one has had a lot of the hard graft done already Hi Brian, What a tantalising statement! Now let me see: ...You're in WA ...You've bought a Don 140 model ...It was built in 1953 ...Most of the hard graft has already been done Hmmm....wouldn't have the serial number 672 would it? If so, what is the previous owner of 672 up to? If it isn't serial number 672, where has it come from? Could it possibly have something to do with the recent shipment of caravans from Victoria which was referred to ever so fleetingly in a post a couple of weeks ago? So many questions, so few answers. ;D ;D ;D Looks like Cobber might have to migrate to fulfill his dream! Don Ricardo

G'day All Happy new year to all our friends in vintage van land. We have a few more photos of the progress we are making with the Don. I'st a photo of the new hardware we have purchased for the interior.....handles, cupboard hinges, latches and window stays, just to name a few. We are painting the cupboard doors at the moment. here are some photos of the outside. We have chosen the colour scheme to match our new tow car we are restoring which is, a 1961 series 3 humber super snipe.

Dosse - you are an absolute marvel - the van looks great. How about you show us a pic of the intended towcar? Or do we have to wait for the unveiling at mooloolabbabbah on the 8th of February? Have you got all of the electrics sorted out as well? regards earlee.

Hi dave,
You & Ilse have done a great job on the Don. Finding the brackets & catches is a bonus, & shows that if you spend a bit of time looking , in a city the size of Brisbane, you can turn up pretty well most bits you need.
As you're aware by now, the only way you get anything finished is head down, bum up, & stick at the task until its achieved.
You have proven that with this van
Its a credit to you, & we cant wait to see it soon.

Hi Dosse Having seen this van in the flesh myself, I can only stand up and salute you for the job you have done on it. You have managed to turn a piece of what looked like scrap potential and created a masterpiece. Congratulations to you and everybody else who had a hand in this resto. Just shows, what determination, grit and elbow grease can to. Not to mention the talent! An excellent job! ;D ;D ;D Ray (and no, I am not sorry I didn't take it - you've done a far better job on it than I ever could )

Hey David,
I feel a lot better seeing someone else who had the same level of rot that i had. What did you do about replacing the curved timber?
Cheers Chris

Hi Dosse Great job on your van - well done. Always encouraging to see what can be achieved. Where did you get the rear tail lights & indicators from? I have been going through catalogues, shops, ebay but none suit. The ones on your van look the type I am after Thanks Neil
