Had a call before I went away from Beth.........her 91 yo dad has sadly been put in a home, and the house in City Beach (Perth beach suburb) and his beloved old caravan have to go up for sale.
The caravan is rich in family history, having been purchased new as a shell in 1960, then fitted out by her dad who was a carpenter by trade.
The caravan comes with a diary of trips, .....original purchase receipts and alot of other memorabilia.
Country Club Caravans are unique in that they have a fibreglass front & rear, plywood sides and an ali roof ...........howzat!, three most common caravan building materials of the period in one !
Anyway, I checked it out on xmas eve, and a deal was done, however couldn't pick it up til yesterday as was headed east for the humpy nats.
A couple of family holiday photos supplied by Beth
and an original CCC add
The caravan is well used, however still in sound condition as it was always garaged in the garage of their City Beach home between trips ......a rake falling against the front of the van caused a broken window.
The log book records several Melbourne to Perth trips in the early sixties ......
the red dust still plasters the underside of the van.
Beth and 2 of her 3 sisters were there yesterday when I collected the van .....they drank champagne to celebrate many memories as children on family holidays, and told many stories including the one when a truck ran into the back of the van whilst running down a steep descent into Sydney
if you have a look at this photo from the 60's, the CCC is being driven out of the same driveway that I yesterday towed the caravan out of
the caravan out of the garage after 10 odd years
....wish I'd borrowed Noble's Zephyr wagon for this job
if you look closely at this pic, you'll see all the dust being blown of the roof
to be continued ........................
