Still playing the waiting game. A work friend is in the process of ordering a set of springs and a dropdown axle for the teardrop. Taking an awful long time so not a lot has happened. I really need to get the body back on the chasis so I can start rebuilding. The chasis is ready for the floor and frame so I can start planning a bit more. In the mean time I took a lot more of the outside ply off, put another door in and braced the whole thing up again. Not sure if i will put extra windows in or just make windows in the doors. I took a couple of photos today and there isnt much left of the van now all the ply and gal cladding is gone. If I dont get the axle and springs soon there wont be anything left to restore. ;D ;D John

Well I finally got the point where I cant take anymore off it.I spent the day putting in supports and braces using the old timber. Im still waiting on the dropdown axle and springs to arrive before putting it all back together.I sat the frame on the chasis and pre drilled all the mounting bolts so it will all fit back together. Once I put the springs on I can put the on and seal it all up as well as insulation. Put the frame back on and start rebuilding the van again. Hopefully I might see the springs and axle this week. Afer a long day and a half this weekend things are starting to progress a little bit. Finally got tht springs and welded the eyes and shackle in place. put the base floor on the chasis as well. Now the frame is back on the chasis and all bolted down. Even got the main floor down as well and all sealed up. Now once the springs are fitted I can put a couple of wheels of the FE on and move the Teadrop about and start planning a bit more.I have wait and see the ride height and how it looks with the panelvan Still havent decided on what thickness I need for the outer ply on the teardrop yet. For a while I looked like I was getting nowhere and after this weekend I feel like I have achieved something. John

Well things have progressd a little bit more. With the body back on the frame and the floor in place, I got the dropdown axle today.Boy doesnt it get the teardrop down close to the ground with the FE 13 inch wheels on it.It should sit nice and low behing the Panelvan. A mates tring to sell me some 10 inch wide Torana wheels for it but I dont think so. I could always put 14 inch if I wanted a bit more height and clearance. The axle is a little wder than I expected and have around 100mm between the tyres and the wall. Ill just have to find some relly nice mudguards for it. The axle huge and should add to a bit of stability to the van. Next I have to weld the lugs on the axle and then start on the body lining. Not sure of what size ply to line it with.Anyone got any suggestions. John

Hi John,
Why not just use the Holden wheels & tyres you have, with the rims painted van colour ( or contrast), & hubcaps & trim rings. Would look pretty well period correct I reckon.

It is coming along a bit now.A bit more complete with some wheels under it. The rims and tyres are off my FE Panelvan but for some reason the stud pattern is a little bit out on the HT hubs. A mate gave me a 13 inch rim today for a spare. I need to find 2 more rims with a 125mm offset or more. Im sure I will find some when I really start looking. plenty to do before then though.Thinking about rebuilding the door frames and then maybe start lining the inside a bit. I hoping to get to checkout STU over xmas and get a few ideas so not going to rush too much.

Well another week has passed with a little bit done each afternoon and most of today. Got the ply glued in for the ceiling and added a little shelf and cupboard up on the front wall. Today I put the internal wall sheets in and a coat of primer. Everything seems so fidley when working in a small area. I made the doors bigger tnan normal and my wife thinks they may be to big, but with the doors having windows it will be the only natural light source. The van had small doors before and I struggled getting in and out. The next plan is to put the back wall in and commence on the internal back cupboards then worling out where all the wiring will go befor buying the external ply and putting the sides and roof on. Still a long way to go but having the inside walls up feels like Im getting somewhere. John

This is where I might need a bit of help. Im not real keen on building the doors and how to go about it. Are they set into a door jamb the same as a house front door or just an architrave used to stop the water getting in. I also want to build some windows into the doors as well.
