Good Morning all
Cathie and I have been away recently and one of the places we called into was the caravan museum that Panda mentioned on here a while ago.
It’s called ‘Wild’s Caravan Museum’, we made two visits but found no one around.
We eventually managed to catch some friends of the bloke who runs the place and they kindly gave us his phone number.
There are quite a few later model vans for sale out the front, but the interesting ones are the older vans in sheds around the place, and some other oldies out in the open.
I took some photos, which I’ll post up as soon as I can.
Most of the older vans are in poor condition unfortunately. Here are a few pictures of some of them.
The large van is in reasonable condition and has a reasonably good interior.
The teardrops are in very poor condition. There are three of them, two conventional ones and a larger more squareish shaped one.
You might remember a Propert and a small wagon in Panda’s picture, both the Propert and the little covered wagon are also in very poor condition.
There are a couple of pictures for you Ray.
The Propert isn’t as good as yours, but the nameplate seems to be in reasonable condition.
There’s a small timber wagon that at a distance you might think is horse drawn. It has a very basic flat hitch plate bolted to a wooden drawbar.
It has two single wooden bunks inside with about a foot of walkway between. That’s it for the mod cons, and it has a painted stretched canvas top, which is torn, as you see in the photo.
Would it date from the 20’s or early 30’s maybe?
(There are a couple of pictures of the small wagon in the ‘new’ technical section.)
There’s another very interesting small wagon style van (more a trailer really) that appears to be very old.
The upper structure is a mixture of plywood sides and roof with canvas infills.
I’ll have to figure out a good way to post all the pictures of the old vans and keep them in some sort of order
While we were away we also saw a 50 year old Viscount van at Classic Caravans at Pimpino, near Horsham (on another posting in the ‘for sale/wanted’ section)
