Hello folks, Long time since I have logged in I know! I was in Tassie recently (going back again soon, beautiful place) whilst in Hobart i was perusing the Salamanca Markets and came across a gentleman who sells these prints and could not resist this one... I did not want to scan incase it was subject to copyright... I wanted to share it with you not sure if any of you have seen this photo before. Here it is... Insciption reads: Baily's Garage Hire and Tour Devonport 1936 Cheers Greg

Thanks Greg, Photos like that show us that we Aussies have been into caravanning in our own way for a long time.... love the 'van adapted to carry the boat. And on both 'vans.. get a go at how the barn door is hinged on opposite sides Dave... I reckon you should go to Tasmania, if there's still one there you'll find it ;D ;D Cobber.

Hi Dave,
I had another look at the website above and in the "about us" tab at the top of the page you'll find the contact details and other info. His ph no. is (03) 6225 3569 his name is Graeme Clennet. I think by memory the print cost me approx $35 plus the frame.
Hi Cobber,
Happy to share mate, I really like the dinghy being piggy backed on one of the vans and I also like the unusual barn door set-up. Funnily enough I'm not too sure if there are many Tasmanian members here but, on the drive back from Port Arthur to Hobart I'm 95% sure I saw the curved roof of an old bondwood in someones yard hidden under some trees...
Unfortunately it was getting on dark and we had to rush to the airport to return home... If I can get the chance next visit I will be checking it out! Even in the dark I was scanning the roadside and properties for Vintage VW's and Vintage Vans
Cheers
Greg

Hi Dave,
Would be interested to hear if he has any other vintage caravaning images... I never thought to ask him on the day. The print measures 20cm x 28cm I think that's about 8" x 11" in the old scale.
Cheers
Greg

Hi Gordon, Unfortunately I could'nt bring the bug this year to the VW Nationals as it is sitting in my garage needing its heads reconditioned... Valve seat recession due to unleaded fuel :-( I have even been using premium fuel as recommended and it still killed it. I'm hoping to have it sorted out soon... I'm not sure if you have seen the May to July issue of VW Magazine Australia (VWMA)? My bug and Teardrop are on the front cover! www.vwma.net.auDid you attend the Nationals? Was it any good this year? Cheers Greg

I'll try and get to the Katoomba Get together to say hello.

Hi Greg, you mentioned on that on your way back from Port Arthur to Hobart you spotted a curved roof bondwood hidden near some trees, well that is just before you come to a small town called Copping, and the van is a very pretty little van, about 11 or 12 ft, early to mid fiifies, and it belongs to a VERY GRUMPY OL' MAN, who has no intention of restoring it and is quite happy to see it rot where it stands, and will not sell it ! I've tried twice to buy it to no avail, i've even asked local people to approach him for me, and still didn't do any good. He isn't a very sociable person according to the locals. I've kept an eye on this van for some years and it starting to look very sad, a damn shame !!

Hi exocet, Geez I was wondering if I was just seeing things! It was well into dusk when I spotted the curved roof of that van and yes it is near Copping. A shame then the grumpy old bugger won't sell... Sounds like you'll have to pry it out of his dead lifeless fingers! hahaha I'll be down there again in August and I'm sure it's going to be freezing Cheers Greg

Hi all, Mark is right about the 2 old vans and the boat in tas. I have had a copy for years and copied one for my shed wall. WHY? Because my name is Bailey of course and i had a couple of Furnesses at the time (they went to tassie as it happens) What intrigues me is the height of the front of that boat. I have a 29 dodge which is about 6' high. Judging that as the height of the tow cars i reckon the boat would need about 13' clearance! Now for you (other) old farts like me ,and some guy called dave, cast your minds back to the roads/tracks in to fishing spots in those days or for me in the 50's and 60's. LOTS of overhanging trees, rough bush tracks etc. I reckon they must have wiped out a few bouts before they gave up that idea. What do you think? Beetles
